Hard to beat my little mixture of catfood, mini marshmallows, whole shelled corn and squirt of liquid smoke in my dog proofs but gonna be new to coyote trapping. Gonna make some dirt hole sets

Honestly just go buy some Hiawatha valley from Cavens and be done with it, use less than a tablespoon per hole. Also if you are new to coyote trapping I'll give you a few hints that may help. If you have caught a bunch my apologies.
1. No matter how little lure you are using, use less. I prefer to use twig the size of a toothpick and if I can't see the wood through the lure then it is too much.
2. Up the pan tension on your traps, I like 3 pounds minimum and honestly prefer it north of 4. Really cuts down the opposums and coon bycatch.
3. If I can push on a trap and move it then I need to bed it more solidly.
4. Check traps with binos, don't walk up to a trap unless it has popped or flooded.
5. Put more traps in fewer locations. If a location is good enough for one trap its good enough for multiple. Loading 3 coyotes at one location is fun.
6. You can't pull a coyote that far. Put traps where they will walk, not 5 feet away. Sometimes they will come see it but more often they walk on by.
7. Angle matters on dirthole sets. Think about where they have to stand to see down the hole.
Sorry for talking so much but I wish I had known this when I started.

Never tried trapping yotes, but get yourself some hand traps for coons and some sardines in oil. I've trapped about 10 coons in the past 3 months.

Put out a corn feeder and they will come..... my trail cam is weary from photographing 12 smiling coons a night.

And I've shot a bunch of coyotes but never trapped them. Coons, mink, and possum is all. Love coon trapping with dog proof traps

Use a dirt hole trap setup for coyotes..... dig a hole in the ground at 45 degrees about 8 inches deep and place your bait in it, cover lightly with dirt and set the trap 2 feet in front of it. I always used 2 traps. One in front one in back. Coyote will be interested in the bait and eventually step into a trap. Easy peasy

Haha, this is the same where I put my cell can...I get anywhere from 50-100 pics per night. Bout time to put a dent in the coon population.

One other question, do yall use a gland lure around the hole? And are scent free when making set? Thanks fellas

Just started using dog proof traps and the cat food and mini marshmallows worked immediately, seems like a winning combo.

Marshmallows work great for coons and you won’t catch any dogs or cats if in urban area.

Pros Choice #3 is the only way to go for cats and coyotes, any of the gimmick stuff and your gonna wind up with possums and coons.
Use a tiny amount with some eye appeal like a feather or something. I'm a dirt hole artist.

Gland Lure yes, I personally use cavens violator 7 most of the time now but there are several good ones out there. If you can talk to someone who traps locally and find out what they have luck with.
I've killed a ton of deer with a bow where I had to drop the cigarette to shoot. With Coyotes I'm using dedicated rubber gloves to handle traps and different gloves to handle bait. I want to keep my time on location under 5 minutes if possible. They live and die by their nose, stay as scent free as possible.

I agree with the tiny amount but want to say be careful with feathers. Know you local regs, I can't have feathers anywhere near a trap. They are killer on cats though.

I personally go closer with the trap, 7-9 inches back from the hole to center of the pan and 3 inches off center to the right, I also only run 1 trap per hole, I would rather move down the the trail and run another dirt hole or even a blind set.
That said there is no "right" way to do it, maybe some wrong ones but not right way.

They'll destroy that feeder once caught. Move the traps back a short distance
