What Are The Best Receiver Hitch Locks?

I NEVER take my receiver off my truck and it stays there often for the life of the truck, i think many others do the same.
for those who remove them or switch them out the quick snap on pins are all you need, and for some people who leave them on but may swap it at times, the locking style hitch pins make the best sense.
there are a bunch of different types and styles of these locking hitch pins at wildly different prices but im mainly interested in durability and strength but also a good lock that wont be frozen if i ever want to remove it.
im thinking why am i buying locks for this, if i never take it off?
plus all anyone needs to do to those locks is smack the shite out of any of those locks and the pin inside snaps off and you can remove them without a key. go look at youtube videos showing they can be cut off easy in just 5 seconds with sawzall because, for whatever reason, its not made of hardened steel like most padlocks are.
so i was thinking about using a simple grade 8 bolt and nylon lock nut then smash the threads so it cant ever be removed and must be cut off. butt its not coming off just by hitting it with a hammer, you will have to use a hack saw or power saw to get that damn thing to come off.

If you're using a $35 hitch, just the pins.
If you're using a $200 hitch, but some locks. While someone CAN cut off a hitch lock, it's not something I would ever worry about.

watch the youtube videos, all you need is a regular hammer, give it one good wack from the side, and it snaps right off like opening a bottle cap.
its so amazing to see and the lock is there as pure decoration and nothing else, it may as well simply be the snap clip for as secure as it is.
that said, the whole topic might be of no concern to others, but i rather not have my trailer stolen at the launch so easily. THAT is the issue that worries me, its not really about the $25-$35 receiver being stolen, thats just an aggravation, but losing a trailer "is" an issue i worry about.

I would look at your trailer tongue first.
I laugh most of the time when people have two even three locks alon their adjustable hitches and then a lock in the tongue of their boat and within s a minute a can have stolen their boat without ever cutting or beating on a single thing.
The vast majority of boat trailer tongues are just bolted on.
I walk up with a new tongue in hand unbolt yours bolt on mine and one gone

If that kind of thing worries you then just weld the the hitch on. You won't have to worry about anyone taking it then.

How about using the standard hitch pin. Drill a hole large enough for a "good" padlock and slide the padlock through it calling it a day?

but yes that is what my plan is, im getting a grade 8 bolt and nut then have the nut welded onto it.
i just have to sawzall it off if i ever need to replace the receiver but i should never have to

really good point and i see lots of them too, they often have the best high priced locks you can buy on everything and then the hitch is held on with just two simple through bolts with nuts that can be removed in less then a minute.
i dont like welding hitches onto the tongue of my trailers but i make sure to get the nuts welded onto the bolts so it cant be unscrewed

because its a thickness issue, the hitch pin is only 5/8" so you drill a hole for a standard padlock it has to be a little bigger then 5/16", that leaves you with 1/8" thick metal left on each side of hole for padlock and you recreated a situation again where a smack with a hammer snaps the pin off the lock

Make a bigger hole in the receiver and use a 3/4" or 1" pin.
I'm just giving ideas. I'm happy with my lock on my hitch. I have broken them before when I lost the key but have never had a thieving issue (knock on wood) in the 15 years of having one in the back of my truck. I also have a cheap extra with regular pins in my tool boxes (in my truck and on my main trailer) incase it gets stolen while I need it.

This is what insurance is for.
I do my due diligence with locks and whatnot, but insurance covers theft.
