I've decided, I might hate the officiating in everything. The female judge for best in show picked the two dogs I would have had in the last 2 spots. I would have booed her out of the arena if I'd been there. That Bichon Fricassee or whatever that won looks more like something that should be used to stop menstrual flow than a real dog.

the AKC standard labs and Goldens always look fat as shite to me. Huge gap in show and performance lines

And don't even get me started on AKC's standard for German Shepherds.

The black lab was HUGE. Can you imagine pulling that monster into your pirogue? His body was a block, no taper between neck and tail.

Probably a English lab. The best in show winner, not a schnauzer fan, was beautiful though.

with very few exceptions - show specimens are light years from their field counterparts.....

the average show lab is now nearly twice the size of the average field trial lab(field trial not hunt test).

GSPs have a coupld of dual champions out there - or did a few years back.

currently only ONE of the retriever breeds has ONE dog that is a FC and a CH - show champion and field champion.

chessies.....

boykins are new to akc only since 2008 or 2009 and already the core boykin people are taking issue with the direction the show stock is going..........

What criteria are you using? You realize it's confirmation to standard, right? Best in show is really not something to watch or pay attention to if you are interested in limited breeds. Even the groups are somewhat worthless for that. You would probably like the individual breed portions which are not shown.

I wish they'd change it so that the dogs had to have won at a certain level in the actual sport or whatever they were bred for before they could be allowed in shows.

It will never happen, but it should. Many breeds basically are two separate breeds now, show and working.

there is some chatter amongst some national breed clubs about that - I know in a couple of breeds dogs with titles and certs are graded higher...

So you want any Akita worthy of Westminster to go out and kill a couple bears first before they are allowed to enter into the show.....rrrrriiiigggghhhhtttt.

Competition leads to such goofiness. Nobody wants to eat "competition jambalaya" because it is made for looks rather than flavor. Competition BBQ and your backyard favorite are quite different. And a field trial dog may score lots of points but not be worth a damn if you wanted to use him for actual hunting.
