Scouting this morning for East Zone youth hunt. Will be daughters last year if I can convince her to come. Son will be hunting but taking more convincing than normal for him too.

Walk that line carefully, too much encouraging can lead them to something they don’t enjoy

There will be more facepainters and spinners on the Red tomorrow than ducks. I did, however, see 7 gaddies in Sand Beach Bayou this afternoon.

Been a very slow low number day here in NWLA so far. Not a lot of shoots on the WMA compared to normal, Shot a pair of woodies so I’m content.

He's at that age where he's starting to hunt something else,

Ha, I know you speak from experience. Not that yet though. Problem is that his formative duck hunting years (7-12 yrs old) were spent slaying the ducks in Venice by the camp. Then for a couple years, Bayou Sauvage was decent, but now he has aged out. Now that there are more hunters than ducks down in those spots, he just can't get excited for spending 3-4 hours of time to just shoot at a couple woodies. He'd rather go play golf or ultimate frisbee with his friends.

yep.. ha mine killed more before he was 12 that most people do in a lifetime. ... duck hunting is getting worse and worse each year here. no matter where you are... it's only a matter of time.
