Two more days and this front should have the ducks pushed down. Can't wait.

Our next split sucks. It closes on Sunday New Year’s Day, when most people are off on that Monday. Then, it opens back up on the next Monday when most people have to be at work.

Zones are fricking stupid. its all at the behest of marsh hunters. if they want to keep zones then have a marsh zone and rest of state zone

also Miss/missouri/ and Ark dont care what day of the week their season starts on or what day of the week it ends on but for some reason LA has to start/end every split on a weekend

I think its pretty obvious why they do it that way and 90% of the hunting population appreciates it.

good reports of birds from all over Cameron Parish. The water will be high in some places due to all the rain which might help/hurt some. Arkansas opened last weekend so every hole from here to there will be banging them out!

There are more duck hunters in Ark and tons in Missouri and Miss and they don't seem to care

Ark closes for Christmas eve and Christmas day which is a good thing and gives them 2 extra days on the backend
They don't complain about that either

My two spots in terrebonne parish have a lot of birds as of last weekend. Grays, ringnecks and teal. I think they are running the december survey this week. Anxious to see how it compares to november.

They mustve been sleeping in the plane when they ran the Nov survey.

even a week before it was released there were more ducks in south la than in the last 5 years

I think the whole damn waterfowl survey process consists of a bunch of biologists sitting around a conference table making wild azz guesses while drinking coffee and eating donuts. Where do I apply?

Yeah I think the transect lines are bizarre, I get the theory on "random lines" but if you do the same lines every year I do not find them "random."

I haven't noticed any correlation with their numbers and our hunting. Lowest November numbers on record and overall we had a pretty solid first split on the coast in Hackberry, just very very few big ducks which has gotten fewer and fewer the last several years.

It's all so local. I know of places a mile or so away that smashes them one day and we are slow and vice versa.

I have barely caught any water with quite a few good rains. I think your spot being dry and sitting lower than my hole has been pulling any water I'm collecting. It's pretty sandy in between us... I'm still very dry.

In other words, let me know when you have an open spot.

I agree. It's still an interesting read for me, though. The data; however, doesn't seem to correlate with what's actually in the field. As one of you said, it was one of the lowest November counts on record. But for most waterfowlers that i've spoken with and speak with regularly, it seems to have been one of the more productive November's in a number of years, both in SW la, SE La and in the northern corners of the state.

Yep, they only fly 1 line around Venice and it doesn’t even cross the Refuge or WMA. There is no way they are getting anything close to an accurate count.
