Saturday was slow for us on Big Lake, but my buddy and I turned it around this morning and caught 18 specks and 2 keeper reds.
I don't know what happened Sat., because it wasn't happening at any spot we tried.

Went on Friday and Saturday down to Venice. We kept 45 reds, 10 snappers, 4 flounders, some pompano and some other fish.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous and it was some awesome fishing

Rollover. Really. That's my stomping grounds. Haven't gotten out there this year. Might have to try.

Coon, I heard y'all had a good time. I was given a little bit of that tuna and cooked it last night. Fresh tuna has got to be one of life's greatest pleasures. I am friends with your brother in law (JW) and his friend (JA).

Friday we caught a 77 pound Warsaw
5 pound black grouper
Couple of mangroves
A nice cobia
Limit of snapper and about 25 mahi.
And a Blackfin on accident on a floating sardine
Saturday
We took a 3 guys out on a charter and put them on 29 mangrove 1 yellowtail snapper
2 Blackfin (on snapper rigs with weights and sardines)
Some mahi
A rock hind grouper
Limit of red snapper
Sunday we went diving and shot some scamp grouper, mangroves, and red snapper. And caught a few almaco jacks.
Also had a few lobster that we got off the platform but of course we followed the law and placed them back on the platform
It was a hard weekend on my body but fun.
Next weekend it will be on for the Tradewinds rodeo. We plan to take every category offshore :)

Went fishing in the Seven Dollar Bay area yesterday and caught 35 specs and one butt-ugly black drum that was about 40#.

Went freediving this weekend and ended up with a limit of mangroves and shot a couple of ling. Only saw a few ling was kind of bummed. Only saw one school of red snapper probably because we weren't in deep enough water but I definitely saw a shite ton of triggerfish, stupid feds. Also had the pleasure of being stopped by federal WLF agents who followed us all day from rig to rig watching us and when they did stop us, all they cared about was if we had any red snapper. When we said no they jetted but stayed at a rig close to the one we were at to keep watching us. Weird shite but anywho it was a good little trip. Oh and
the feds.

I fished out of a pirogue this Saturday down in Cocodrie, and now I know what you yakers feel like. It was a different(wet) experience, but I liked it. Caught a limit of specs and a 2 reds.

Hey BigHoss...How deep are the platforms that y'all usually see lobsters on? I've only seen one lobster since I've been freediving and it was on a rig in about 180' of water sitting in one of those circle joints where the platform connects to the rig legs(if that is what i think it is). That was at about 40' down, but do y'all usually see them deeper or what? I'd love to freedive some lobsters off a rig when the season opens with a polespear or something.

They usually reside on platforms in 300'+ of water but they can obviously be in shallower platforms. Deepest I've ever seen one on a platform was 80-100'

Yeah we were in 400 feet of water. But they were down at 40 and 80

Friday, bought a new baitcast and rod, and went to the pond a few hrs before dark. Caught two under a lb, and switched to bream fishing.
Saturday, caught a hangover.
Sunday, went wake boarding with a hangover (do not recommend). Back to the pond just before dark, and got a few hits on dark colored worms before switching to bream again. Three of us caught 35, with only 6-7 not being keepers. The five biggest were over a pound, and had the ultralight drag screamin.

I figured they would be at the deeper warmer bluewater rigs being that they are considered tropical and those rigs are covered in a lot of coral unlike the shallower rigs that have mostly barnacles. We don't usually freedive those rigs except to shoot AJ's since there isn't as many fish to shoot in the 50' range of water. In august I'm definitely gonna stop at a couple of those rigs on the way out to the floaters to see if any of those delicious critters are shallow enough to get speared. Thanks for the info BigHoss and Mylsuhat.
