Shite happens very fast on the water!! My friends were in Panama City attending CRNA school. A buddy of theirs took them & some other friends out in The Gulf in a 21ft center console. They hit a wave wrong & ALL were ejected, no kill switch. My friend surfaces, sees the boat coming right at her, & dives as fast as she can to avoid it. Her husband & others did the same. Some got hit badly & pretty messed up. The boat circled again & the cycle of diving & coming to surface to breathe started. I'm not sure how long that went on, but could you imagine? One guy was a pretty good athlete, lost his leg. My friends were not injured.
On a side note, I was run over by my own boat while wakeboarding (rookie driver, my fault, he said he'd driven a boat before). He was the only other guy with us so I picked him to drive. I just shouldve driven & not board. I was 25 & dumb. Some lessons you have to learn the hard way. Wheel was turned all the way left when he hit throttle. Boat pulled me up but started to sink when boat started turning left. All he had to do was throttle down, but he tried to steer out of it. As he was heading towards me I'm trying to swim away but with jacket on & feet stuck in board, I was sitting duck. As he was coming towards me he started to turn a bit & I pushed off the hull. Soon thereafter my leg got clipped by prop. After boat went by I reached for my leg & could feel the hot blood coming out. The people in my boat were all 18-22, freaking out, no help at all. A young couple in a passing boat stopped & pulled me out by jacket (I'm 220#). Man I got really lightheaded & bled all over that nice couples bowrider. Anyway, cut through my fibula, nicked common perineal nerve I believe ( footdrop as a result, really sucks, another lesson do your dang physical therapy).
So boys n girls, shite happens really quickly on the water!!

Screw that man, the ONLY way I'm getting in the water is if I'm ejected.
I'll be wearing the red pigtail for sure.

I've debated for several days now of adding to this thread. But since it has turned to a mostly learning and wake up moment I will add. First, let me say I don't judge anyone as I have made my share of mistakes in this life. The subject of this thread is a good friend of my buddy and we were down at the public pier fishing. My buddy saw this guy's truck at the ramp and after talking to him went to meet him to get some crabs from him. He returned to say that he tried to get the guy to let him help take his boat out because he appeared to have been drinking. He got a call about the accident a while later as we were driving home. My point is another very important safety aspect is drinking and boating just don't mix. I bass fish all the time and rarely drink at all when on the boat. This makes me want to never drink in the boat again. I don't judge him and I hate that now he's going to be affected by this forever.

Not to judge but sounds like noone had a life jacket on either if they were able to dive. Yes, shite happens fast but for a reason.
Kill switch and life jackets. I'm a boat nerd and proud of it. I never took my life jacket off even when I was kayaking.

We never smelled alcohol on him. The way the blood clotted in the boat makes me think it wasn't that thinned out. Not saying he wasn't drinking...but if he was we couldn't tell and we were definatley in his face a bunch. I agree though. I don't drink much on the water. It is also very dehydrating for me.

That's good to hear. My buddy was pretty upset about it. Tried to get him to pull boat out but he wouldn't, but that was around 930 or 10. I'm glad you guys were there and able to help.

after reading this thread, start using it and wearing my life jacket when underway.
Reading all the horror stories online is what motivated me to always wear my kill switch and life jacket while underway, and it probably saved me and my coworker's lives yesterday morning.

How so?
Another one that probably didn't read all my posts in this thread.

I was ejected once. So glad I was not wearing a life jacket. I'll never wear one again outside of a tournament.

Wow. Thanks for posting. I always wear mine when running my surface drive and my tiller, but I never do whenever I run my bay boat. I really should just keep it attached to a best so I wear both more often.
Scary. Glad he's okay.

What happened? I dont wear mine like I should but can't imagine it being a bad thing unless you don't have the kill switch attachec.

Yeah, kill switch would do no good there unless it slung the driver far enough.
I started wearing mine in the stroker when I realized how fast I was running one time just stretching it some between fishing holes.
