I like the gun and have shot many rounds through it but find the trigger pull long and stiff. I was hoping someone could help with some info. Do I need a gunsmith to do mechanical work or can this be solved by trigger spring replacement? I sorta think this is a spring issue and also wonder what the cost for a gunsmith to complete the job.

It's a DIY job really but any gunsmith can swap in these parts.

Once I'm around my USP again I'm installing that kit, the threaded barrel, and a set of new sights.

HK USP 40 is a great gun. This is one of the few guns that a 40 is not built on a smaller 9mm frame. Instead it is built on a beefer frame to match the 40. The recoil and snap on the 40 usp is equal to a 9mm recoil in my opinion.

Thanks for the link Clames. Looks like I'll also need a new style control latch. I've broken the gun down several times over the years so maybe something I can do myself. Quite the improvement to be gained from this kit.
ETA: 1994 model.

If you want the best...reduced reset from Gray. They offer other services as well.

Is the gun used for range or self defense?
How heavy is the trigger pull?

Pull is pretty stiff. I've gotten used to it but like the idea of a single action feel for my favorite gun. Gun is a night stand, range, carry when hunting and all around go to plunker gun. I may or may not carry it in my car while working in downtown Charleston...

PP3,
The concept of modifying a self-defense gun stirs a lot of interesting debate, especially making the trigger lighter. In short, modifying the trigger of a self defense gun is not something that I'm comfortable w/. I'll admit that some of my life experiences may have lead me to be "risk averse" from a liability standpoint. I think a trigger that's modified so that it's less than the factory standard creates a potential area of liability or legal risk for the shooter. I understand that not all shooters have the same concerns I do; heck, a number of folks on this forum will disagree w/ me, as well. That doesn't bother me as I expect adults to have spirited debate. The main thing is that YOU be comfortable w/ YOUR actions and think through your decisions carefully. Here are some articles that offer a more articulate discussion than mine.
