You can wade all over the White River, are you fly fishing? Fishing is great all year, but I particularly love late October due to scenery.

Yeah, fly fishing. The White, huh? I thought it was more of a float

Plenty of places are shallow. Go to White Buffalo Resort and you’ll be thrilled. You can fish for trout and smallmouth, boat if you choose

Minimum flow on the White has ruined wade fishing that river. You can do it but it isn’t that safe.

Little Red, Norfork and the Spring River are three other options.

Little Missouri River right outside of Murfreesboro. About 2.5 hrs north of Shreveport.

Little Red River...world record brown trout was caught there. Also several tributaries that are fishable.

For those who have fished in AR and East TN/west NC, which is a better trip?

Arkansas is better fishing.

When the horn goes off, get out of the water.

Little Red is great for wading with several public access sites. When generation starts the horn sounds at the dam but it takes several hours for the water to rise downstream so you can stay ahead of the rise and still wade.

I grew up in Western NC and have fished North Central Arky a hand full of times. What I'd say is the fishing experiences are different as they are different types of fisheries. Western NC and E. Tennessee has everything from creeks you can hop across to very large rivers. Where I've fished in Arkansas, it's mostly big water. It seems in Arky, we were more beholden to the generation schedules of the dams. You'll catch bigger fish in Arkansas. I'd also say there is more to do outside of fishing in NC/Tennessee.

I'd say the Smokies in NC are more of a sure bet, but I dreamed of Arkansas after I went there the first time...

I would always go to the Norfork or the White, but the Norfork is generally more wadeable, the area around Dry Run Creek just below the dam at Norfork you can catch some great fish. I prefer floating than wading though, just make sure you’ve got good waders that damn water is cold!!
