Who cares about 10 yards?

My mother in law bought a gun and wanted to learn to be accurate.

I put her three feet from the target and asked her if she could hit it. That's the reality of a defensive shoot.

Yeah, it's cool to shoot from a distance. It's fun to work on target transition at speed.

The reality is, how fast can you draw and pour enough rounds onto the attacker that they stop being a threat?

13 rounds of .22 hollowpoint into the torso from 2 feet away is a death sentence. Hell it could happen IN an O.R. and that person is likely still dead short of a miracle.

Agreed.

It's a .22. Ammo choice isn't all that important. The half dozen wound channels per shot is kind of the selling point.

I grew up shooting shot guns and 22 rifles hunting, but never owned a handgun until I was in my 50's. Love taking my Shield and Walther CREED 9mm's to the range. I bought the shield and half a dozen extra mags first. Once I got the Walther, I only go thru the seven Shield mags once. I used to reload them twice. Now I mostly shoot the full size gun. Got the CREED from CDNN Sports before COVID-19 for $259.00.

Application testing: real world ballistics

Trapped some hogs this weekend (6) in the big pen

With a rest aim and taking our time, we got these results in lethality

1. .22 LR Fieldmaster pump action rifle: shot between the eyes of a 120 lb boar. Stiff legs and fell over sideways dead. Bled a little puddle out of his mouth. Instant death.

2. Same weapon and ammo second pig goes down the same.

3. Third pig we let a kid shoot and the pig moved at the last second, creating a bad shot into the hind quarter. Open wound and gushing blood. I quickly dispatched with a shot about 1 inch in front of the ear and two inches down

4. 4th pig I tried .38 special rounds out of my new Ruger GP100 357. Hit right between the eyes at 15 feet and it literally bounced off his forehead. Gashed him pretty good drawing blood but he wasn’t even woozy. Dispatched with the 22 fieldmaster

5. Fieldmaster between the eyes. Instant death.

6. My buddy shot a 357 Magnum round to the ear at 15 feet, and it knocked the pig backwards into the cage. I said it was a real life Joe Rogan reaction gif to a UFC knockout. Instant, powerful, unquestionable death.

These pigs are very strong and tough. One broke our drop gate by bending it like a crescent. We had to hammer it back straight.

Good choice with the 22 and now I’m looking at them for defense.

Most gunfights- 3 yards, 3 rounds and it's over in 3 seconds

I have probably the same fieldmaster you’re talking about. It’s my 2nd favorite gun behind my .410 pump. Quite a fine rifle to tote through the swamp.

, but it actually jams way more often than i'd like. Almost every time I go to the range/shoot it jams up at least once.

I'm taking a class and this is one of the queries I have, but how do you clear a jam with this gun? And I assume YouTube is a good resource - I've been watching videos and actually pick up my gun tomorrow!

Suppressed.22lr is the only thing I can shoot in my neighborhood that won’t upset the HOA.

Rookie question for sure but do spent bullets and shells mess up lawnmowers or cause other risks to pets, etc? Do you go and rake up bullets each time you're done shooting?

I'm about 75% sure I happen to live in a small area of my city where I can legally shoot in my back yard, which is hard to believe. I'm not getting my hopes up until it's confirmed but I honestly thought I'd be shooting at a range 5x a year, and now I'm dreaming about shooting in my yard 50 times a year and trying not to get my hopes up

I would remove rifle casings but little .22 casings don’t seem to do anything with the mower.

Subsonic rounds with a suppressor really are as quiet as a BB gun. Your neighbors won’t be alerted by the sound. Just don’t let them see you!

I don’t have experience with this pistol but pistol jams aren’t rocket science. Usually either the case doesn’t eject, which you’ll notice immediately, or the next round did not feed which you’ll also immediately notice. Keep your finger off the trigger, eject the magazine, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, and just look and see what the issue is.

I've got a Mark 2, same gun earlier model, and I freaking love that pistol. They're great for shooting cheaply. They're not a self defense pistol but I'd prefer it to not having a gun at all for sure. They can be very accurate. I quite literally shot a dragonfly out of the air with mine once in front of witnesses who were about as blown away as I was with disbelief.

I will say this, if you're a noobie, NEVER break that gun all the way down. Never. You won't get it back together without a gunsmith.

I hope you’re joking. Videos out there show buckshot penetrating multiple walls.

Yeah 00 is too big inside. I use #4 Buckshot in an 18" Remington 870 for that purpose. 8 rounds of #4 Buck is basically a claymore with a nozzle on it.

I’m not understanding the problem with her being able to shoot ten yards. If she can hit bullseye at ten yards then she can hit at three.
