I talked to the golf course today, and it is going to be $40 golfer + $3 tax, unless we can get a tax exemption form. Im assuming that exemption is attained by proving nonprofit status. Im considering reaching out to companies to sponser each hole around 250 bucks per hole. That would come out to 4500 and would cover almost 120 golfers fees. If you think i should ask for more, let me know...
100 per person
400 per team
500 for teams that sign up after a designated day
4 man scramble
(For the non golfers, a scramble is where the 4 man team tees off and everyone hits their next shot from the best ball on their team)
Otis offered up 50 quatrs of chicken and sausage gumbo, and LSUCouyon has also offered to cook a gumbo. I think between the two, we should be able to feed all the golfers gumbo as they come off the course. This will cut down on costs, so more goes to the cause; And it will probably be perfect gumbo weather, being in october. The night course at the party, will be a whole pig that some OBers have said they will man through the afternoon.
I spoke with EJWs wife, and she is really excited. I asked how she wanted any money made to be spent, and she wants to help someone else. She said her children have been blessed and are well taken care of. We will be carefully deciding who we want to bless over the next few months, but it will go to a family with a child with cancer or a household that is in dire need.
Guys, ive considered doing a little auction after the tournament just to raise a little extra money. But im not really good at asking for things, so let me know if this is a good idea. Im just thinking like guns, puppies, homemade grills and furniture that can be donated. Im going to let the golf course know to get as much alcohol as they can get their hands on... then call and order 6 cases of Old Charter. They can make their money on the booze carts and the clubhouse bar. That would also make for an interesting auction.
4lsu2, i know youre busy, but call me next week or whenever you get a chance. I need your advice on a few things.

Will really help with the donations and sponsors if it gets tax exempt status. I'll sponsor either way. I can write it off as advertising if need be. Another way to raise money is buying mulligans, free 4 iron off longest par five etc.

Considered the mulligan thing, but there will be some competitive golfers, and i dont think the profit from it would justify messing with the integrity of the tournament. Is getting tax exempt fairly easy?

I want to commend you before the whole board You are doing a great job. I want to be the first to sponsor a hole. Do I get #1? Maybe I should sponsor the hole where most balls are lost. That would suit my style of play!
Stay in touch.
Era: dang it smack. You beat me to the first sponsor. Dibs to you.

It's not that difficult filling out the paperwork but there are some legalities that need to be taken care of such as forming a corporation or LLC, having bylaws, etc. The main problem will be the timing. Right now it is taking the IRS a while to approve 501c3 (nonprofit) status.

That would work. Better offer smack first though.
