Truck guns

Since it appears police now won't do anything to help during a bad situation I imagine more folks will begin carrying truck guns. In saying that, what's an ideal setup? 10.5? 11.5? 14.5? 16? Or does it really even matter since anything is better than nothing.
With pistol brace rulings likely coming in August (or sooner) i assume that could affect these setups quite a bit.

Regular ol 16" AR15, body armor and spare mags, and a helmet if you wanna roll around ready for some shite.

seems like you'd want to distinguish yourself from the shooter

Bring a bright orange emergency vest for that. Not even kidding. That's what Pat Macnamara does.
As he has said in the past: "If there's omeyhing going down and I'm there... I'm not waiting. I'm going in."

Thats a REALLY big issue with involving yourself in an active shooter situation. One of many really big issues. You had better get in there, get him, and disarm yourself ASAP.
The average dude is best served by normal handgun concealed carry. All carrying a rifle in your truck is going to do is get you a rifle stolen out of your truck. You had better have a very good way to secure it.
At some point, you need to weigh risks. There's a far higher risk of your whole family dying in a car wreck than there is of them being locked in a room with a shooter. I dont think keeping a rifle in the truck as SOP for daily life is a smart move, strictly because its many many orders of magnitude more likely to be stolen than be needed.

Also always wondered what people do when/if they get stopped for a routine traffic violation or something. Do you tell Mr Patrolman you have an f-ing rifle under your back seat?
What if you forget an cross state lines? Seems like it's just such a bigger risk than reward, but I guess some folks always roll with them.

Yes. They generally do not care.

You don't do that. Potential major legal shite.
Its a really big liability to do. I'm not opposed to anyone doing it, but you should do it on an empty chamber, very well secured so it can't be stolen, take it out every night, etc etc. Its a pain in the arse really. Just concealed carrying can be a pain in the arse. Riding around with real kit in the truck all the time in a safe and useful manner requires some effort, unless you just don't ever go anywhere.

Probably the best choice. Reasonably useful and not very expensive.

What exactly is a “truck gun”? Is there a reason it has to be a long gun? Pistol seems more convenient and easier to secure.

Never really thought about it while going on vacations.
Let’s say a LA CCP holder I know will be passing from LA, through MS,AL,GA,TN and going to NC. Would a loaded AR pistol underneath the back seat and a concealed handgun on the person be legit? If for some reason that person were to get stopped.
I mean, technically, it’s a pistol that is concealed.

The ones I’ve encountered care when you tell them.
Mainly they just want to see your setup though.

You would think. But then you get a guy like this Texas shooter who was allegedly wearing body armor. It would appear if you want to engage someone like that you need something that will penetrate at least Class III soft armor.

Sub2000 folded stashed between passenger seat and console.

S&W shield carried on my person.
Glock 17 in a locked safe bolted into my center console.
If I get into an unforeseen situation in my truck where I need more than my shield and G17 with an extra magazine I doubt any extra personal firepower would help at that point.
How are you going to properly secure a rifle in your truck every day? You’ll just end up with a stolen rifle.

Greymantactical makes some seat back rifle kits for ARs.

Idk if that would even make me feel good. I'm thinking more like a bedside quick access safe but rifle sized and bolted to the floor under the rear seat. Or a weatherproof one in the bed.

Yea that's what I was thinking. I could live with that.
