He probably got caught on the camera before he noticed it like someone else said. He then switched the card thinking it was blank. Can you tell if there was down time on the camera? Meaning did he switch them immediatly, or bring it home first and then replace it? The former would lead you to believe he is alreading poaching on your land and was caught on camera. Send him some pics in the mail from the card
as far as dont time on the camera- We usually have 1000-1500 pictures on that camera and that time we had a gap of a week or so with nothing then about 80 pictures and his pictures in a separate file on the card.
my buddy showed him the pictures that he had of him on his phone.

If he had a camera with him, he could have taken out your card, put it in his camera, deleted picture that was taken of him, got mixed up and put the wrong card back into your camera.
I think this theory makes the most sense. He probably panicked when he realized the camera caught him, and took it off the tree. Got mixed up flipping cards. Also he must not have been in uniform when he was seen, making him not there in an official capacity. A TRESPASSER.
My cousin chased some poachers over about 3-4 year period. They were putting on wet suits and riding 3 wheelers in on creek beds. Finally caught the guys and at least one was a deputy sheriff in a neighboring parish and ended up having to resign.

If I remember correctly from earlier in the thread, the camera had been move to a different tree. So who knows what all happened.

We have some that back up to our property. They made a nice little trail from their skinning shack to our woods it happens to come out right on our main 4-wheeler trail. We talked to them about it, and they wouldn't admit that it was theirs even though we both knew.
Needless to say they have lost a few 4-wheelers already. We've towed them out when we found them, or slit their tires an gas lines.
@OP) Need to call the police. Have someone look into this shite before more of your stuff goes missing or someone gets hurt. Look at all the threads with people getting shot. How'd you like to know this asswhipe put a bullet in your friends chest one night?

he laughed and said he just mixed up the cards. he even said that he might write up a story about it and try to get it published in Mississippi Outdoors or something.

I would NOT post pics either, then if he is a GW he will then start covering his tracks and figuring out ways to ticket you for no reason not to mention what he may do if he feels he is about to be busted. Again, I would NOT post pics to Ms website.

I would take this to his boss. Why would he touch your property. I think he has over stepped his authority. Looks to me,he is hunting your property.

If you get your card back, run that card recovery software posted earlier. Even if he deleted the pics of him, they should be recoverable. You will prob find pics of him walking up to camera to remove it.

that doesnt answer wtf he was doing on your land with your property. i woulda been pissed to the point of having to call other law enforcement on the spot while he was standing there.

I would be very careful of any interaction you have with this guy. Bad things happen in the woods....haven't you ever seen Deliverance
