I actually use some 2dls for cats and mink. I love them. And so much easier to set over your knee in deep water than a 1.5 ever dreamed of.

Been reading this thread everyday & it has brought back some good memories
Just remembered when we was canoeing in Arkansas a few years back, We went to a local store & they had a trap hanging out front on the wall with some other old stuff. A buddy was trying to set the trap & caught his thumb
I let him hang there for about 5 minutes
at him before I turned him loose

My Paternal Grandmaws father trapped for a living amognst other things. She was actually born in a trappers camp. When I was a kid 16-17 we took her to the zoo and when we got to the trappers camp in the marsh exhibit she cried becaused she remembered thise days and it brought back memories.
She told me they caught racoons, mink, otter, a beaver every now and then and muskrat. Her dad sropped trapping before the nutria became prevelant.
She also told me her dad would hit the racoons in the neck with a stick to kill them because they were tough and mean.

Hows the frigid cold treating you guys?

I had pulled all my traps but I managed to get 4 in on some new ground this afternoon. I really don't know what to expect cause with the ground being froze tracks were almost non-existent. Also changed bait so that maybe I won't get as many grinners. I walked this place s month ago and there was good bobcat and fox sign so I am keeping my fingers crossed and will update with a good catch I hope

Well it's not much of an update but to do something a little different sometimes if you look nature makes your sets for you.
I put some Carmen sweet meat in the tree and some Fox gland lure on the tree
Set the trap and covered with leaves. Not too many or they will clog your trap
I know not exactly what I had hoped but maybe give some ideas on some new sets
I did catch this big guy though so not a total bust

Between a total freeze and now freezing rain i'm done until the weekend at the earliest.
I've got my county soil and water conservation district wanting me to start doing some beaver trapping for them. Instant access, tail bounty, get to keep the pelt and getting paid per animal. Might make some money this year.
I wish i could find a cubby like that. But thats what i would catch if i did.

Kind of figured that was going to happen just had a trap left on my shoulder when I walked up on it so I said what the hell

Damn that's a sweet deal all I get around here is " hey how bout come and set some traps for me. They are eating up all my chickens but you can keep what you catch"

Someone that stupid shoulda been hit over the head with a stick, but the pelt would be worthless.

Another kinda dull morning it supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow so when it quits I am going to get serious and get some steel in the ground maybe have some better updates. The lone coon I got this morning

Going to pour all night here. I'll run my water line and see if the ice is gone tomorrow morning. In the land gumbo here I'm going to give it a few days before I start predators again. Bedding traps in wet sloppy gumbo just sucks.

I think we are supposed to get about an inch here. It damn sure does't make it easy but the youngun wants to get some more sets out and who am I to argue
Posted on 1/10/14 at 12:02 pm to angus1838
That coon is begging for a nice pop in the back of the head with an axe handle.

How goes it Trapper Joes?
Posted on 1/12/14 at 4:41 pm to RATeamWannabe
Well believe it or not our local weatherman lied. He said we would get about an inch but three and a half is what we ended up with. So I didn't set any new sets but I did catch a coon yesterday and today. This afternoon I did get 8 New sets in so maybe it will be a little better. Today's coon
Yesterday's coon was a little more interesting he had buried himself under a log so I pulled him out by the tailand the sorry sucker bit a hole in my boot. Now my Lacrosse boots leak too.
He bit my boot then hauled arse back under the log so I dug his head out from the side

It was a disappointing day for me today 2 possums and a coon in a live trap. I just knew I would have a couple good catches and to top it off its raining again. But maybe tomorrow will be better.
Smoke I am bound and determined to catch something other than a grinner in that cubby set damnit
Here is the area that I have 8 sets marked by red x's.
