Is it too early to go sit in the woods and see the turkey are working and gobbling like they do in season?

No you should head out there. Midnight seems like the perfect time.

Too early in the season or too early in the morning?

It's not too early, but you need to do it correctly.

Don't bring a call, and don't try to make one gobble by hooting, crow calling, or anything else. Just hide and listen.

Pick a good morning. Clear, cool, crisp. Don't go on a foggy or really muggy day. They gobble better on those clear mornings, when it gets daylight quickly. On foggy mornings when it seems like it takes forever to get daylight they generally don't gobble as well. Those are the days you walk around a curve in the road and there's one just standing there looking at you from 100yds.

Don't try to get close to one. You should just be going to listen and get an idea on how many gobblers are in the area.

Slip in and slip out like a ninja. Don't walk down roads and pipelines where a turkey can see you.

And above all, do not tell a fricking soul if you hear a turkey. In fact, it may be best to tell people you went 3 or 4 days and didn't hear any. You also "didn't see but a couple ol hen tracks." And you "must have walked 5 or 6 miles without seeing the first pile of turkey shite. Not in the food plots, roads, nowhere."

I'm doing my first listen this weekend.

I hope to hear that most glorious sound.

I'm going to try to go one morning this weekend as well, depending on the weather. Kids' soccer games are fricking up my weekends right now.
