Those brainiacs refused to cost share on my pond because, in their opinion I didn’t have enough watershed acres and it would take well over a year for the pond to fill.

It took less than five months and has maintained water level.

You will run power somewhere so submerge a sandstone pvc Christmas tree in the deep section and connect it to a shore based air blower with a timer. . You can use one from an anerobic sewer plant and it will blow air through the sandstone branch ends and create millions of bubbles to aerate and most important keep the cold and warm water mixed so pond doesn’t turn over.

Getting the feeder fish established first before introducing predators is important.

Before introducing bass I had healthy populations of feeders. Bluegill, plant life, ect. Once I had some plant life I introduced feeders for the feeders like freshwater glass shrimp and mosquito fish.

As others have said you'll need shallower areas for spawning and habitat for feeder fishes.

From my own trial and error the ponds without catfish produce better bass than the ones with catfish.

Lmao. I’m glad!

Maybe it’s not bad advice to tread lightly with the feds. I think the OP may be an exception, though.

Once you get a good population of bream and minnows, then you can introduce the bass. They all need forage food. Some good vegetation will help with the smaller bait fish. With a pond that deep, threadfin shad may be sustainable to live through the winter due to the deeper thermocline. I would go with F1 Tiger bass once you're ready for them. Tremendous growth rates and very aggressive.

Glad you paid for it and not me, John Q Taxpayer. Why should NRCS be cost sharing by on people’s private fishing lakes in the first place?

Erosion control in many cases. Improved wildlife habitat which in turn helps honey bees.
Helps reduce water usage and the need for fertilizers or pesticides.

Just off the top of my head

If that upsets you, wait until I tell you about the $200,000 you paid me to sign a 15 year contract to not cut any of my timber along a creek.

Upset? Hardly. I’m applying for similar stuff. But you won’t hear me bitching when I’m denied for a paltry 10% of it.

Sorry if you were under the impression I was bitching. I’m about 50/50 with the programs. You win some, you lose some.

Are you unaware of the plight of the honey bee? I plant several acres of pollinators around the pond.

Also, you said you didn’t want John Q Public paying for pond builds, but you’re working with NRCS yourself?

Not for a fishing pond. ;)

And honey bees are exotics.

Honey bees are invasive and are outcompeting native pollinators.

Correct, I apologize for the confusion. I meant to say native bees/pollinators. I’m old and it’s late and I took a drink every time they mentioned that A$M player during the game tonight.

The plight of the honeybee has jack frick to do with pond building and maintenance. Yes I'm aware of the plight. My FIL is a former beekeeper who eventually gave up because the blight got so bad he couldn't keep a hive alive. And my son is a certified "Junior Bee Keeper" with a certification signed by Edward Morgan, director of the Metro Atlanta Beekeeper Association.

Don't lecture people about honeybees on the subject of pond building. Are you trolling or are you actually a moron?

You sound mad.

With my pond I use it to water my pollinators. Around 5 acres. They’ve exploded since I started doing it.

Anything else your “Junior Ranger” can help me with?
