Thanks for the update. I highly recommend coming back for that same trip during the Cahaba Lily bloom. If there is a natural wonder in Alabama, that’s it. Stay in the same place and do the Little Cahaba and the Cahaba Refuge.

We did Centerville two weeks ago. Our best (5) was 15 lbs. All topwater. Did Hoover to Helena this week and did good for numbers, but nothing over 3 lbs.

Alabama is blessed with so many fishing options it’s not funny. I could go somewhere different every weekend and not go to the same place twice for years.

Looks like a great trip! What make/model kayaks do y’all use for this? I’m assuming the pedal type like the hobos mirage drive that are so popular in southLA would not work well due to those rocky shoals?

You're gonna make me dust off some buzz baits. I haven't fished topwater on the river in years, usually a spinnerbait or crank bait guy. But my river is full of aggressive spots and shoal bass, so should fish similarly.

Correct. For the most part on these rivers, pedal drives dont work.

I use an old town predator mx - designed for fishing moving water.

The other 2 used Native Ultimates, either the 12 or the 14.5 model. These are canoe/kayak hybrids.

All of our kayaks are more nimble than most fishing kayaks but we still had to drag a good bit.

The best topwater bite was friday. We caught maybe 10 of the 25 on top. Saturday, maybe 5 total on top. None on Sunday.

It was a grind, especially saturday, to get bites. Beautiful river, tons of fishy spots, just werent a lot of active fish.

That river reminds me a lot of the rivers I have fished in SEOK in the Ouachita Mountains. Similar shoals, gravel and over feel.
