I’ll add that we’ve never had an issue at any of the put ins. Also, we average a little better than one mile per hour in the summer fishing. The Blueway map distances are accurate. Plan accordingly. There’s nothing out there until you get to Centerville. Not a fun place to be in the dark.

Caught above Centerville last year on a buzzbait.

Need to get you on Hatchet Creek

Great pics! I'm on the Cahaba a lot but well south of you in Perry/Dallas county. It's extremely rare to see anyone on this stretch. You literally have the place to yourself. Occasionally run across someone checking lines but that's few and far between. The Cahaba is a gem.
And yes, there are huge deer up and down that river.

Caught one over 5 this year on Hatchett. Cahaba is better.

Thats a beautiful fish.
Whats your average fish on cahaba?
If you catch 50 fish between you and the mrs on a trip, whats the length breakdown?
10" and under fish
11-12"
13-14"
15-16"
17" and over

I’d have to think about that. Depends on the day really.
Bump to see how these guys did. Weather and water should have been perfect.
Caught this dude today in Hoover.

We are trying to dial in our trips for this coming weekend.
We have 3 time slots:
1. Friday afternoon evening we should be in the water by 2pm. Planning the Pratt's Ferry to our cabin which looks to be right at 6 miles. Can we do that in 6hrs (2-8pm)?
2. Saturday all day. We should have 14 hours of daylight and we would love to spend it all on the river. I am trying to piece together a float of a reasonable length to tackle. I can go from Tate's Landing/ Living River down to Pratt's Ferry and that looks to be about 14.5 miles.
Is this a reasonable ask while fishing or are we biting off too much here? Have you ever dealt with Living River for access? Is launching at sunrise an option and what about truck retrieval?
3. Sunday, we will probably fish down from our cabin to the Centreville takeout, about 2 miles.

I worked in Tuscaloosa and Centerville for a year right out of college. I saw the Twix and Tween closed down. How long ago did that happen ?

I plan on 1hr/mile when fishing. That assumes a stop for lunch. There aren’t any true shoals until you get to Centerville (we did this two weeks ago and crushed em). I’d say you’ll be fine as long as y’all aren’t stopping and are on the water by 2PM.

Living River is a church camp of some sort. It’s hard, by design, to get in there. I’d recommend going up river the Slab. It only adds another 3 miles. That’s 13 total to the refuge.
We went around Bham this weekend. Water should be perfect.

Thanks again for all the awesome intel. I will 100% post a follow-up next week when we get back.
I spoke to Jenny with Living River and she is AWESOME. The Lebron Canoe Launch is on LR property but accessible to everyone with prior consent. She sent me a parking tag for my truck and had all sorts of cool tidbits of info about the river. She really sounds like a wonderful person.
Our plan for Saturday is to launch at the Lebron Canoe Launch and float to the boat launch on the NWR, right around 11 miles. I know our fishing style and figure we will slow down at points to pick things apart so having a little slop time built in should help us out.
We are hoping to eat a "shore lunch" of alabama bass at some point on Saturday - am I reading it right that there is no size limit on black bass in most Alabama waters?
Thanks again for your help and patience!

Glad to see you secured a spot. I have her cell number, but wasn’t giving it out here.
12” black bass as a general rule is a keeper most anywhere. Y’all will have no trouble catching 12” spots.
If the wife isn’t working Sat, I want to do a 13 mile trip. I really want to do below Centerville to get away from the shoals, but that’s my wife’s favorite part.

We considered that stretch down to Harrisburg bridge but we fish that kind of water often around here so wanted to stick to shoals.

Great trip and a cool river.
We fished 6 miles Friday, 11 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Caught some fish but it was pretty slow overall. The fish never really turned on throughout the weekend.
2 of us caught 24 on Friday in 5hrs.
3 of us caught 38 on Saturday in 11hrs.
3 of us caught 30 on Sunday in 3.5hrs.
We had 3 really nice fish - two 3lb and a 4lb alabama bass. 2 of those came on a shower blows 105, the other on a spinnerbait.
For the weekend we caught them on all kinds of stuff - spinnerbait, buzzbait, plastics, jig, topwater, crankbait, karashi, and fluke.
