I've noticed a large number of ticks in NWLA also. Every time the dog goes outside he gets a tick it seems like. I use some kind of gel inbetween his shoulder blades and that keeps them off for a few weeks. You can deffinatly tell when it wears off though. I had one bury up on my left side a couple months ago. More towards my back then my front. Getting that thing off was a pain in the arse. I used a lighter to heat up the blade on my knife and stuck it to the tick hoping it would freak out and fall off. It didn't and to top it off I missed the tick and branded myself with the knife.

Cabelas has them around $6, but I bet you can find them a lot cheaper online.

I have found several crawling on me this year. None dug in though.

To remove a tick I found this trick online and it works like a charm. I posted it before.
Rub the tick in circles for 20 seconds. When you stop, he will back right out. It's like he gets dizzy, or just tired of your shite. No worries of breaking him apart pulling him out.
