Those are also watertight... unless you step on it in your duck boat... after which, you'll have to buy another... just for the lid.

Which size? We have a bunch of them and I am thinking about building a tackle center around one of them and I have read other places where one size of them will hold one specific size plastic tackle boxes perfectly but I am not sure which. We have XL and XXL and then some that are bigger than that.

The XL ones will also fit perfectly on the black and yellow plastic shelves they sale at HD for about $35. The 5 shelf unit is the perfect width to hold the XL box and the height is perfect for one to be on the top shelf and not interfere with garage door operation. Our garage is lined with those shelves and almost all of the shelfs have one of those boxes on it. I also have one wall of my shop lined with them and so much crap in those boxes it is going to take my kids a couple of days to haul it to the landfill when I reach room temperature.

Those boxes are great...the best storage bin I have found. The lids suck but they close tight. The only other problem I find is no tape will stick to them so it is hard to label them.

I have one of the big ones...I don't remember which size it is...that I attacked 3/4" plywood cleats to on the inside and attached a piece of 3/4" plywood to the lid. The plywood on the lid sits on the cleats. I used adhesive gasket material about 1/8' thick around the lip of the box and on the top of the cleats. I am what some would call portly and I can stand on that box without fear. Its heavy but I keep all of my dry storage stuff in my duck boat in it and it is as dry as any dry storage box I have found.

I am thinking about building one of them into a cooler. I have a "cooler" I built out of EXP foam and poor mans fiberglass and it is great for shipping frozen stuff in. It ain't pretty but it gets the job done. I am thinking about building another one with one of those boxes and pour foam then poor man fiberglassing the foam. The uses of those boxes is limitless in my opinion...if only they came in red and black instead of GT colors.....

3/4 inch plywood for all that? How much does it weigh.

It added about 10 pounds to the weight empty...the cleats are 1.5 inches thick and 45'd. If I were making another one I'd use aluminum angle and try to build some sort of grid for the lid from angle or tube. I put the empty box in the boat before I put the blind on it and fill it up with the stuff I know is going in it. I don't know that it is the best solution but I had the box and lid and the plywood and gasket stuff was on hand so it was more or less no additional cost. I do wish though that it would hold paint better...but no paint will stay on plastic long in a duck boat.

Last year I purchased one of those and a $40 scent slammer HME Scent Slammer
To store my hunting clothes in. I’ll be honest I was skeptical at first, but those early October hunts where you’re sweating your nuts off, come in let your clothes dry then throw in the bin and the scent slammer, my clothes did not smell the next morning.

I actually made one for the boys ball, track, soccer and cross country clothes to go in. Really does work with killing those odors. Last year, the oldest ones soccer cleats would smell so bad we would put them in a Walmart bag and bungee cord them to the wife’s roof rack for ride home

I have three of those damn things packed to the gills with fishing tackle. I need to get rid of one or two of them. I hate throwing good baits, lures, tackle in the trash. Does anyone know of a good place to donate this kind of stuff?

*Maybe something like "take a kid fishing".

Local high school teams can always use them. Some are set up where you can write it off.
