re: This run on ammo and guns

You do realize there were 8 million new gun buyers last year. If they only purchased 100 rds of ammo each that is 800 million rounds. Stop criticizing your fellow gun owners for exercising capitalism and their constitutional rights. You have yourself to blame for not having yourself stocked up.

I'm in the Army, you are too ignorant by half if you imagine we have enough real trigger pullers in uniform to stand against a concerted effort by citizens that are better armed than we are on average. Then there's the numerical advantage.
I’m certainly not one to believe that there will be some sort of civil war vs the government but I have always supported the 2nd amendment as a very powerful factor in what makes us uniquely free.
Civilians would clearly not stand a chance against the government’s firepower but the threat of going to war against a civilian militia is enough to keep things in check. Soldiers don’t want to fight against their own citizens in the first place- knowing that they are armed puts some serious consideration into the equation.
Consider the impact of social media (ref GameStop stock manipulation) and it’t not at all inconceivable that civilians can organize as a formidable force.
That said.... people buying up the ammo with the fear (or hope) that there will be some sort of armed civilian uprising, are idiots. This country has issues and it’s divided but we are a long way from armed combat

You may think they're idiots, but they aren't the ones whining about not having ammo. Idiot.

Why is it idiotic to complain about idiots buying ammo for no reason?
Lol
Do you even think before you post?

Nah, i guess dont. Know what else i dont do? Wait until its too late to buy ammo.

Why is it idiotic to complain about idiots buying ammo for no reason?
Fwiw, I'm not currently buying, because I have some (enough) and the prices aren't good.
Some people are buying because they're new to guns, and they want to get in enough practice to feel competent, and want to have some left over.
Some people are buying because they anticipate there will be taxes and fees applied, and they're betting current prices will be lower than future prices.
Related to that, some are buying because they think it will be severely restricted, but what you have will be grandfathered in... or just don't care otherwise.
Some are buying because they didn't have a lot put away, and now they're low or out.
Some likely are looking at the stimulus as a freebie (as plenty did before), and figure "why not ammo or guns?"
Some are playing the market, buying it and flipping it on Gunbroker and elsewhere, trying to make a profit from the madness.
And yes, some are simply buying because there's a rush, and "I gotta get some too".
Outside of the last, every reason is relevant, and frankly, what someone else does with their money is their business, not anyone else's.

I think we're sitting in 1850s america, waiting for the straw. Not sure what that straw will be, but severe 2A should get everyone's attention quickly.
If people truly believe the election was legitimately stolen (not saying it was), to me that's worse than a fear that the feds are going to outlaw slavery that was present in 1860.
I sometimes wonder if our ancestors would already be in uprising in current times. Or if our current populace wouldve participated in the first CW at all, or just gave in.

Not to nitpick or anything, but you made these statements in the same post:
If you have plenty, and want to go shoot, then dip into your stash. It's the reason why you buy relatively large amounts when the price is low, so you can ride out times like this.
Now I would say (just from my own perspective)- you might want to put your hobby on hold, until we get a better look at what's happening, especially if your idea of "a lot" isn't enough to last a year.
I would also say, perhaps you should have (perhaps you did?) take advantage of the past couple of years and stocked DEEP, as a frequent shooter. Prices were as low as we've seen relative to economy in a good long time, and ammo doesn't go bad (if you store it correctly). I have no worries about ammo from the 80's, that's 40 years old. I shoot surplus Tok ammo that's older than that with zero qualms.
If you KNOW you will want to shoot weekly, you should have been investing what you could every time prices dropped, since we have seen panics before. It's not hoarding if you know you will use it.

I just want some 9mm so I can keep up my hobby.

You also don’t read prior posts
I’m not out of ammo and I bought plenty when it was readily available.
I’m a regular shooter but have had to cut back because Karen’s are buying out of fear of something that is never going to happen.

I also shoot regularly and in the last 5 years have maybe bought 500 rounds off the shelf. I haven’t slowed down my shooting at all. Sounds like you should have bought more rounds when you could.
