I believe the mechanical failure part, just before they are tossed you can see him turning the wheel but the boat isn't responding then the wheel spins all the way to the left when he lets go but the boats going to the right. I always where my kill switch though I don't wear my pfd as much as I should, one positive of tournaments is getting folks more used to using both of those safety devices.

That's because the the foot of the motor was out of the water.

Mechanical failures can happen to any boat including new ones, there was a boat shop employee out test running a new boat down here a couple years ago and it blew the fitting off the hydraulic steering line and it threw him out and it came around and hit him and he didn't survive the accident. A applied Kill switch probably would have saved his life, steering failure of some type is my biggest concern on mine when running as fast as we are.

The comments say it was a mechanical failure... more specifically that the steering cable broke

Had this happen to a late 80's boston whaler montauk with 90hp two stroke. The teleflex cable snapped while underway and the boat did a 180 with my cousin driving. How he didn't get ejected i have no idea. Every boat i own since then has hydraulic steering.

Looks like I'm not the only one rethinking my lifejacket and kill switch use after watching this. I guess it's just how I grew up. I'm gonna buy 2 self inflating jackets Bc I'll actually wear them

Recommendations??

That spin out was in a skeeter boat. Most people I fish with don't wear a kill switch. I usually don't wear a life jacket either. Video makes me question if I'm an idiot

Well let me tell you...fathers day a few years ago we pulled a guy outnof the water with his hand hanging on by a thread. Fell out of his bay boat and the fricker sharked him until it chopped his hand/lower arm damn near off.

We pulled him out. Big heavy guy and tied his arm up and got him to an ambulance. Pretty miraculous he fricking lived.

No lifejacket no kill switch.

Big fella with a red t shirt and was impossible to see. We had to follow the blood trail to him in the waves.

My life jacket is safety orange with reflective tape. I no longer fish without a belt either. Need something to grab onto to get you back in a boat.

This was on a beautiful clear day on big lake.

Of course they don't put the pictures of the 15-20 yr old personally owned boat on the website. Not saying some guys don't have really nice boats, because some do, or their family does and they are able to use it.

And forget about University funding. All sponsors and winnings. And some universities have rules on how much/what a bass club can accept in sponsorships.

I know when I fished for McNeese you had to use your own boat. Pretty much everyone had old boats except for one guy, and that was because his dad had a badass boat that he used. Our only "sponsorships" were just discounts at some tackle shops.
