Was considering maybe tanning some rabbit and squirrel hides this year with my boy. Just a little project we could do together.

What am I looking at getting into with something like this.

Should I just buy a tanning kit?

Any advice would be appreciated.

You ever got into trapping? That would be something you and your boy would have a blast doing. Nothing like running those traps the next morning and have a coon, possum, fox, or coyote sitting there waiting on you. Then tan hides

Yes. A decent scraping knife would be a good investment also.

I suggest just getting a tanning kit for the first few to see if yall like doing it or not. They make it easy to do a good job. NiteLite has some good ones for pretty cheap.

My old man does a deer or bobcat every now and then and they come out very nice. He used to be a trapper though, so he has some experience.

It just takes some time and patience. A deer hide makes for a great bed rug.
