That would be awesome and that's what I plan to do at the next class.
Yea, we had a discussion about that. After seeing all that is involved the first build you really need to have the first class. Build another on your own and then Fish needs to have the advanced class over 2 weekends to get the merit badge and the stained cypress boat...

Right now it's my belief that red glue adds character to my pirogue! That and a bunch of imprints from the hammer and a few areas where nails are sticking out!
No doubt if you got good at it, if you stained it that would be beautiful. In fact I think it was Pepperidge that had some of the prettiest grain on the outside, I think many of us mentioned the look his would have had stained.

I am glad you feel that way, because that picture with all the clamps and the glue oozing out is your boat...

We can do that, but there is no need to buy dinner...

How much glue did you go thru for all the boats?
Posted on 5/12/14 at 4:19 pm to Jarlaxle
2 gallons for 9 boats up to this stage with some left over glue for the finish work.
We had a lot of wasted glue that cured in cups due to mixing too much at a once.
We also managed to mix the powder to liquid at a ratio that used more powder than liquid. This caused us to go through 3 buckets of powder and 2 gallons of the liquid.
There are mixing instructions included but the powder is the

2 gallons I think. Much less than when one boat is built, per Fish. We would mix up a cup and pass around the excess if needed. Very few cups were tossed with excess glue in them...

I didn't see much left in the cups after Saturday morning.

sat night and sunday morning when cleaning up I picked up multiple cups with hardened glue and spreaders in them and there was a half cup mixed near the end with nowhere to apply it that went to waste.
Not horrible or anything, but I believe we could have used just under 2 gallons if we had been more efficient.

I can see that as it was getting later we all began rushing and probably lost sight of how expensive the glue was...did the money work out, we might owe you some more if we went into the third gallon???

We could have probably been more efficient with glue dispersal with a disposable piping bag or something similar...

Do you think this would work for a 1 boat job?
