Pepperidge , YGM.

Neighbor is more then happy to supply you with power.

Hey guys, all jokes aside, I would like this thread kept kind of clean. One day a young person might google on how to build a pirogue. There are not many of us left that have the know how.

That is the reason behind this build. If it works out good and I am up to it in the future, I will do it again.

Didn't get a chance to get those 2x4's today. Got on the backhoe for a couple hours and started feeling like crap. Then I had to watch my grandson. Came home sick. Just want I needed.

Hospital day tomorrow and should be feeling great come Thursday, I hope. Cooler weather for that day will help a ton.

The good thing about this build is that once a person learns, they could apply this to building a ship. Really not much different when building the way I will show everybody.

The old saying, "there is more then one way to skin a cat" applies to boat building.

Plywood update....

I don't like how my lumber guy is not getting back to quickly on this. I called him yesterday and he said he is now having trouble locating wood for us. With so many of you relying on my guy for wood I want you all to know that. Does anyone have a secondary option we can explore until I hear a definite from my guy?

I have been going off his word he could get it from day one, if he can't not sure what option 2 is but obviously we HAVE to have plywood for next weekend. He said 1/2" is easy to find right now but I don't want a 300 lb pirouge.

Suggestions?

Edited to add as long as we can find the wood reasonably close I will still pick it up for everyone, and not sure it won't happen through my place, but have some concern with so many of you riding on my word which is all based on my guy at my lumber yard.

If need be, I can make a run over to Lafayette to pick up the wood for everybody. I just have to remember the name of the lumber company I bought it from last time. They had a lot in stock last time I went.

Hospital day today, but if I don't crash thru the infusion, I will get on the phone to find out if they have it.

Past a bad night, but doing a little better now. Nitro helped with the chest pains somewhat.

OK guys, found some plywood and just maybe some 1x4x16 fir boards. Problem is that they only have 15 sheets of the plywood at this time. Plywood is $29.25 a sheet. And the fir boards are $15.36 each. The guy couldn't tell me if they were clear of any knots which is a must.

If I feel good tomorrow, I can get the wife to drive me over there and grab what they have. If anybody that already has the plywood, post up and for those, post up if you want me to make the run. It's about 80 miles one way for me unless one of the builders live in the Lafayette area and wants to pick it up.

Another up date. Found 12 more sheets. All in Lafayette. All at Doug Ashy stores.

Fish, if you want to track stuff down that is fine but you should let us find a way to get it to the build. You don't want to over extend yourself just prior to the build.

I have to head that way for work tomorrow and might be able to stop in depending on how the day goes.

I can also just go over there Saturday morning early and get it.

Edit: I got a 6 ft truck bed (8 with tailgate down) and I'm assuming its 8 ft sheets not the 14 or 16?

Edit 2: did they say anything abt their Breaux bridge location? I try to avoid Lafayette like the plaig on a weekday.

I'm hoping dahammer source comes through as he said something about 14' sheets...of course we maybe SHOULD learn to splice the sheets together, the old school way...

Ok fellas, 10lbs of the 12 gauge 1" nails ordered. They were more expensive than I fist noted. I could never find the original site I found them for 12.50 a lb. Instead the cost per pirogue is now $20 for nails.

Unfortunately it appears my guy is out on supplying the plywood and boards. I apologize for that.

I am pretty busy for the next several days, If someone can get the boards I am in for mine and will pre pay or whatever is easiest. If no one can make it I'll try and get over there on Wednesday morning but not 100% sure I can do that have to be in Baton Rouge a LOT next week where I can't bring the trailer with me.

I am willing is someone needs it to let them borrow my 20' trailer to pick the boards up if needed. I live in Folsom but my office is just off the interstate in Covington on HWY 21.

Ya'll just let me know what you need me to do and I'll try and do it to come through with the wood.

BP no worries with me on the cost of nails or glue at the end of the day it's about the experience, a few dollars one way or the other are okay by me. Thanks for taking care of the glue and nails.

tell me about it...I had ordered 2# of 12ga. 1" bronze boat nails @ $17.xx a pound

shipping was cheap though as I requested they ship in USPS priority mail flat rate envelope so $6 shipping...$20 a pound sounds about right...mine will be here tomorrow...anyone got an in with Flair to get that garbage edited out of this fine thread?

My 14 y.o. son reading over my shoulder because he was excited about the build had to see that...there's a time and a place for everything gents and I agree with Fish and BP...this thread isn't one of them...
