Don't the pedal drives for the NuCanoes have the prop in the rear of the kayak? I'll say the first time you ever get that thing clogged up with weeds and have to try to get that cleared and end up having to paddle that barge back to the landing you'll be hating life. Having to worry about dealing with something like that would make that boat/drive a definitely no-go for me.

Didn't you say you were in Louisiana? I see someone has a 2021 Camo Outback with the 180 drive for $1800, that's a decent deal. If you don't want to deal with roof topping it the same guy has a trailer for $500.

What difference does it make where the propeller is?

No, I am not in Louisiana. Is the kayak you reference listed on Facebook Marketplace?

On any other drive system it's right between your legs so clearing weeds or a line tangled or whatever is as simple as just picking it up, clearing it, and putting the drive back. With that rear prop setup you'd have to crawl over your seat, over any ice chest/tackle/gear you've got in the rear, just to clear it up. That seems like a nightmare and a recipe to fall in to me.

And yes, the one I mentioned is on Marketplace in Pontchatoula.

I didn't know that about NuCanoe's pedal drive. Yeah that would be a hard no for me.

I have mentioned it before, but the ability to go instant reverse is huge for some people. It is for me. I would not have a pedal drive that does not allow this.

Yep, it's basically just a modular system that can be mounted to just about any of their boats. Nifty idea but having the prop at the rear like that could be a headache.

Well, I just pre-ordered a Titan X 12.5 in gator green.

I should get it in January. Was able to get 12 months interest free financing and said what the heck.

but is a pedal drive that much more worth it? It seems like it would be.

Compared to paddle? It is a no-brainer. I wouldn't fish out of a kayak without pedal drive, even without a reverse it is night and day having your hands free.

I have no doubt. I’ve been wanting to upgrade for years now. I was trying to decide between the Titan or the Slayer. I opted for the more stable platform and more room. I want to be as comfortable as possible on the water. Plus there’s tons of options for rigging that thing out should I ever choose. The biggest downside for the Titan was the weight. But it wasn’t a dealbreaker. I also ordered the sidekick. I figured it’s a must with this boat.

Now I’ll have to teach my son how to paddle my old Slayer. That’ll be his boat now. Looking forward to some father and son trips! And if he has trouble keeping up I could always tie up and pull him along.

Anyone have any thoughts on the pedal drive systems from Native and Pelican? Is Hobie generally regarded to be the best and, if so, why?

I’m still monitoring FB marketplace and craigslist for the right deal. But I am considering purchasing new too.

I’ve got a 2019 Hobie Compass with anchor trolley system and a Lowrance 5HD I’m debating on selling.

I bought it to fish the marsh around Big Lake, but I don’t get down there much anymore (live in NELA). It’s been sitting in my garage for almost two years without being used.

Where’s the best place to sell it? Not a fan of FB marketplace.
