Had to wait out some thunderstorms, but got into a mess of reds tonight. Boxed my three and then played with a handful more before calling it a night. I did hook into one that I just had to put my hand on the spool and let him have that shite. Dang near ripped the reel out of my hand.

Anybody headed out this weekend? Thinking about going to PAC on Sunday. Any water and catch reports from there would be greatly appreciated.

Someone told me just a couple days ago the Hog Island launch is closed, is that no longer the case?

Couple questions for the Kayakers:

How far away from where you put in do you fish? Do you have issues finding your way back? Or do you just use google maps?

Do you have problems with bigger bass boats coming by and the wake slinging you all over the place?

I posted on here about a boat I was wanting to get yesterday and I think I am back on wanting a fishing kayak instead. Cheaper and I feel like I would use it a lot more and really get my moneys worth.

Sometimes a round trip for me can be 8+ miles
but normally its less than a mile or 2 away from the launch
Ive never had issues finding my way back, but I scout a ton before I go on Google Earth and Im usually fishing the same areas

I try to stay out the main waterways to avoid bigger boats, but my kayak can handle the wakes pretty easily

It really depends where I'm fishing, sometimes I'll be less than a mile from where I launched, other places I'll be several miles. When I was paddling, I'd sometimes cover 5-8 miles in a day with the occasional 10+ mile day. Now that I'm pedaling most of my days I'm constantly moving around so 10+ miles in a day really isn't that uncommon for me.

Never any issues with boat wakes or boats passing too close, though I do my best to stay out of main waterways and when I do need to use them I'm there as little time as possible.

I have gone almost 8 miles round trip before. What kind of kayak do you have will depend on how far your realistic range is. I know the area I fish fairly well, but I just use google maps on my phone to navigate if I haven't been there many times.

It's not bad. I have fished the Calcasieu ship channel with 300+ ft oil tankers coming by without an issue. Normal boats shouldn't be an issue. Again if you are in a narrow 10ft kayak that will be different than in a 12ft stable yak.

Definitely cheaper. It is really just different fishing. Surprisingly, I tend to have more fun catching fewer fish in the yak. It is easy to throw in the bed of a truck and go.

If you are looking for some extended range, check out a Solo Skiff. I have gone back and forth about selling my yak and getting one.

Spend a lot of time in that seat. I ended up having to sell my first boat due to a similar style seat. It caused lots of butt bone pain. Not everyone gets that though.
