Name of said gun?

I'm not saying it isn't true, but not saying it is.
Cannot recall. It was on Gun Stories which is not being aired right now. Pretty sure it was a break action that allowed unloading of all with one push. Some famous names were mentioned. The commentators had very little positive to say about the colt other than it was very common.

It was a smith and wesson design i think. Single action calvary pistol. It was used by the us calvary i think but never caught on with the public.

The above was pretty much what was said. It is not a consensus though. Plenty of people argue for the peacemaker. None of the panel I watched did though.

Oh, and lever guns pretty much suck for swamp hunting.

You beat me too it.
Smith and Wesson made a Model 3 or Schofield, that the Army did actually use some of. I don't think its reliability was great because of the break action though. But the unloading of all spent cartridges at once was a great feature, that didn't catch at that time. It shoot a smaller .45 Schofield caliber that the Colt could also fire, but not the other way around.

Doooh, yall both beat me.

I dont know much about the schofield to say if it was "better" than the SAA.

And you HAVE to be trolling with that last sentence. Or you have never swamp hunted.

Every bolt, pump and semi-auto ever made. Hell, add single shots too

Ive hunted with all of the above and the 336 is simply better. All of the others fall short in some way.

Bolt actions are longer, fatter, and dont carry well.

Pumps are heavy as all hell and are longer

Semis are heavy and jam a whole bunch and are longer

Single shots are the only thing even comparable.

Do you ever get a second shot off?

The first three, sometimes.

But there's no way this is true

Remington 7600 is pretty much the only pump rifle I know of. 336 is easier to cylce than that.

semi-auto

I can half agree with this. Jams would be the negative here, and if you drop your gun you might as well head back to the boat. I do bring my 742 06 with me occasionally.

Yes. When deer are running, even with a well placed shot, they aren't going to drop. Putting an extra bullet into them makes them stop sooner and leaves more blood.

Semi autos are generally heavy too, I find.

I have a friend with a pump .270, seems great for what he does.

Yes. Very easily and very fast. I put two bullets in a deer 2 seasons ago about 3 inches apart at 40 yards in the time it took him to jump twice.

I actually have a lot of love for single shots.

There are plenty of short barreled bolt guns.

I am faster with a bolt than my Marlin.

Craziest thing I've ever seen here. The reason i loathe my Marlin is due to how hard it is to cycle. and remain able to follow up. It might as well be a single shot.

Do they really happen that often?

Same for lever guns.

In my limited swamp hunting experience, the couple deer I've seen shot always got shot at twice. Nobody wants to have to track through that shite.

Put bullets in it until it quits breathing. Bullets are cheap.

Sometimes we do still use buckshot, but some shots are a bit farther than buckshot can handle.

Btw, many shotguns are a dream to carry too.
