What do you mean not as fast? Like you want a larger arbor?

I was referencing the rod. My reel did fine down there. Just looking at moving to a new rod or going one size down maybe.

Gotcha. Do you have multiple 8wt reels? If so maybe just do what I did and upline one for windy days.

If not, just look into another rod. My BVK is a much faster rod than his Mangrove.

I have found that my TFO's are not great in windy conditions as well, just my opinion.

I only have the one reel, its an Allen Kraken which seems to be the theme on this board. I like it a lot and will probably keep it. If I decide I want to go all in then I would sell the reel with the rod and step up to the XLA. Im not displeased with my set up as it did ok last year. I have a feeling that im not going to luck out twice with optimal wind conditions though.

Anyone getting out there this weekend? In about 3 weeks I will be able to do some pond fishing over 4th of July weekend. Me and my brother in law always fly fish this little untapped farm pond in Kansas and do quite well. The bream are all big, the bass are decent, and catfish bite woolly buggers as well. Last year I had a lot of small flies, but I plan on bringing some of the big bass flies out this year. Can't friggin wait.

Not here, I'm working on a fireplace project that I have to finish. Then I'm taking the family to the little red in AR for a day to catch some trout. Maybe in 3-4 weeks.

Anyone catch anything this weekend? I landed a couple smallies but they weren't very big. Need some rain in a bad way. All of my local creeks are super low

Here are a couple photos from the weekend. Some previously un-shared ones for the TD baws. Spent most of our time this weekend running from storms.

Awsome pic with the gar, what area were you fishing?

I love fly fishing for gar. Throughout various creeks in the BR area, when there isn't a rain spell, you can sight cast spotted gar. They are hyper aggressive to a fly and will provide a great fight for a 4wt and under.

St. Bernard. We actually have a full length garfishing video we're about to start working on. These are a little too big for a 4wt though haha.

I have a BVK 8wt and a Scott Meridian 8wt. The meridian is my old man's, but I fish more than he does so he lets me use it. I really like the BVK, but there's no comparison between the two. The Meridian has the feel of the BVK on short shots (<40 feet), but it's strong enough and has enough backbone to punch through wind and fight stronger fish. I'd still recommend the BVK to anyone though just because it's cheap, TFO warranty is sweet, and it's got a ton of feel. To me it performs better than a lot of $600+ rods.

I'm no pro caster or anything like that though, so take it for what it's worth ha.

Eta: that's not me in those photos. I was behind the lens there.

Nice, thanks for the feedback. I got a BVK recently and have only been able to cast it a few times. Never thrown a Meridian although I am dying to, and I think after i get my cpa exam done, I am gonna buy one of those damn things to treat myself.

Agh. Good luck dude. You should totally do that. You deserve it.

I've thrown pretty much all of the rods in the Meridian's class and it's my favorite, but like I said I'm a slightly above average caster on my best days, so take that for what it's worth. I'd recommend throwing as many as possible before buying.

I will opine that the H2 is crap and you should never buy it
