I've come close to buying a Regal

Just got the Regal Revolution earlier this year. It's a great vise. I love the rotary but I find that I use the Regal Medallion more often than not. Tied on a few Renzetti's, they make a fantastic vise.

Check your email.

I'm going Sunday regardless and if I post that's where it came from.

Caught about 20 little Browns today. Caught on mix of trout crack, chartreuse San Juan worm, hares ear, few dry fly caddies pattern, and of course the brown woolly bugger slayed as always

First attempt at underwater shots -- brown woolly bugger with creepy crawly ice dubbing. Highly recommend.

Anyone fished the Gallatin River in July? Making a trip to Bozeman early in the month. Have a cabin on the river. Supposed to be great fishing, but 16" trout are apparently "large" for the river. Not too worried about that. Heard the dry fly fishing is top notch, and you catch a good mix of rainbows and browns.

I was in Bozeman late June last year. We just fished the Upper and Lower Madison the whole time because everything else was still blown out. I remember the Gallatin being smaller than the other rivers in the area, but we never fished it because it was chocolate at the time. You'll be fine in July though. What dates will you be out there? You may hit the salmonfly hatch.

I can't say enough about how cool Bozeman is. There are so many fishing options out there. If you decide to try another river the Lower Madison should be close to you, and it's an awesome place. I'll never forget the fish smashing dry flies while we were wet wading in 18 inches of water in the middle of the river.

First week of July. We are supposed to be there for the hatch, but from what I've heard it's hard to pinpoint the actual dates.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah you should be there when it's supposed to be. Last year it was early, but I think that was due to the unusually warmer weather early on. Bozeman angler fly shop was really good to my friend and me They gave us good advice and it's a cool store right in the middle of town.

Allen Kraken 3 (8wt) is on the way. Going with a TFO BVK rod but haven't ordered it yet.

Couple photos from this weekend. Saturday was tough with the 150kt NW winds, but we still managed some fish. Sunday was awesome. I had originally planned to go outside Sunday morning, but there were a ton of skiffs at BSM and every single one of them headed down Loutre, so I went the other way.

Caught some bass, perch and goggleeye in blind river Sunday. Didn't have a clue what I was doing but it was fun.

Great redfish shots as always. I was wondering when you were going to get back at it. Think you'll get another video made this year?

well done! Welcome to FF life - Looks like you got a Cabelas Three Forks combo there? Good one to start out with. Keep it up.

I hate the feel of cork, absolutely hate it.. I keep the plastic on all my rods until i can get a good wrap for them. its ugly but its better to me than feeling cork.

I got the 8wt combo a while back. Then went to Cabelas sunday morning and purchased the 5wt. i have a 4/5wt reel coming in, so i just used the big reel until mine comes in.

Got it.

Pay attention to how the 5wt casts with the larger reel and line. Some guys really like what we call "over-lining" where you are using a line larger than intended for a rod (8 wt line on your 5 wt rod). I've never been a big fan and typically stick to the intended weights.

I have considered under-lining my 3 wt since that rod is used in finesse situations.

I'll have to try both. there's a step learning curve on casting. I finally learned that you dont want to force it out there. just a gentle snap and the bait lays down much better.

I posted quite a few videos on the OP.

You can really help yourself by watching beginner casting videos - I have been doing this for a number of years and still watch basic casting videos just to break bad habits.

Anyone ever fished the Rio Grande around South Fork or Creede CO? I spend time there in the summers (or I try to). Any guide recommendations for a beginner up there?
