Also, thanks for the info on the LMF. I have been thinking about going this coming week. Any idea of the situation up there right now?

Corps opened the tainter gates on the spillway dam. There's 21,000 cfs running into the creek. Just as much water as the flood in May that divested several miles below the dam. Even with the gates open 2 feet the lake is still rising faster than they can let it out.

Not good at all. The river is shut down. You can read updates at the Beaver's Bend Fly Shop message board.

The fly shop is no more. It washed away.

I'd seen where it had 5 feet of water. Hate to hear of this.

Barf, stillwater fly shop is offering $65 credit for buying my reel through them. There's a shite ton of lines to choose from, which should I go with?
8wt for reds and tripletail mainly, but also for trout under night lights, if that helps at all.

It's a personal preference but It's hard to go wrong with any of the specialty lines. I have been throwing the Bermuda shorts triangle taper lately and have grown to really like it. I like the rio tropical outbound too. SA redfish is pretty good, pretty sure it's the same as the hydros redfish.
It just depends on your set up and what you like. Some rods like different lines. Some casting styles are better suited for short tapers.

Can't find any news out of Beavers Bend yet so I thought I'd post a recent fish picture in the mean time. I was pulling small bass off of weed beds last weekend with a white zonker when this very large bluegill decided to take a bite. Sorry for the potato quality photo.

This morning the flows have been lowered again to 5566 cfs from the Spillway Dam. This is possibly just to adjust for high water down the system from Broken Bow Lake and may not be an indicator of ongoing releases. IE-the gats may open more again. Also the park's main water line was lost again and as such it may be weeks after the gates close before the park reopens. More pictures are on the Lower Mountain Fork River Foundation page. It is much heavier damage this time.

I overheard a guy at Orvis this morning say that Beavers Bend fly Shop completely floated away, like literally washed away by the river. Any info on that?

Nice brim! Where were you fishing?

Private pond in Desoto Parish.

Nice, I have had poor luck fishing for bluegill and bass so far this winter. Only caught a couple of bass.
I just purchased my first fly tying gear and am getting started tomorrow.

Tying's addicting, I'll say that.
Here is the fly that bluegill (along with 6 or 8 bass) hit. Pretty easy tie, good for trout too. LINK

Where abouts in Desoto? I have access to a few ponds down there but haven't had much time the last few weeks.

Nice. I trust you've been watching tying videos? I watched them for hours, and hours, and hours as I was getting started. What brand of hooks did you buy?

I have an extremely basic setup right now with the orvis kit and fly tying station but I ordered a peak rotary vice to replace the orvis one because it seems cheap. I will tie a few of their basics and then go from there. Will mostly be tying bass flies and streamers right now.
