Had a killing out at the lake this morning. Caught about 12 bass, 2 bluegill, and 4 catfish on wooly buggers. Catfish were huge and snapped my line several times. They strike damn hard.

Bump, anyone been doing any fishing?
Posted on 8/12/15 at 9:12 pm to JumpingTheShark
Been smoking them south of Houma. Fished this past Saturday and Sunday, wind was up but the water was clear. 4 fish over 30 pounds, and 10 over 20. Monster black drum were holding on the edges of the flats, even got a few sheephead to eat a fly.
It's been the most epic summer fishing I have had in years. I only wish I had moved away from Hopedale sooner.

Headed to the White River two weeks from today. Hope to wear them out.

Caught bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish all on the fly last week. Wooly Bugger is king. They tear it the hell up. Caught some bluegill on some nymphs earlier this evening as well. Practicing my roll casts and other valuable techniques for when I finally get out for some trout.

You may already know, but I'll give you a couple of local fly guides who post a lot on their blogs and social media in case you want to get pumped up.
Dally's Fly Shop Blog
North Arkansas Troufitters Facebook Page
Steven and Brock are both great guides and will offer good advice on catching big fish. Steven owns Dally's and lives over there, so you can stop in his shop. Brock lives in Fayetteville but guides over there frequently.

I wish. Having surgery on Monday so unfortunately I'm going to be out of commission for a little while.

Appreciate it, but I'm a bit of an old hand up there. Been going for about 20yrs. I've gotten to know Dale Fulton (formerly of Blue Ribbon Flies) extremely well and will be staying at his river house at the top of Wildcat Shoals. All we have to do is walk down the hill to the water and tear it up...
Caught this nice little brown last year. I didn't measure it but I believe it was around 24 inches, maybe longer

Work has had me bogged down so no fishing for me either. Though I prefer to grind out a lot of it this time of year. During the spring, fall and winter I'm out there as much as possible. I'm about to order up some size 8 scud hooks to get ready for king salmon next month. I'm so ready. Next few weekends will be for tying

Big Brown! Streamer fishing in Yellowstone...not telling you guys
Many backpacking trips throughout my life. Go light and catch em all!
Never forget the surrounding beauty while hiking for those beautiful fish.
Just a little of what I have been doing this year.

Nice, I am working on a trip to Durango for October and will be looking to do some fishing then. Hopefully the river will be squared away by then. Father in law is retiring there in 2017 and I can't wait to visit on the reg.

Sage 6wt 2 piece
1988 sage reel
I collect old fly fishing gear. Refurbish it myself and then enjoy it. I guess you could call me a fly fishing hipster with all the old gear I own. I just enjoy the older craftsmanship.
In the Backpack:
Snugpack Sleeping bag
Nemo GoGo Le 1 man tent
Jetboil TI
Flies
Rope/Harness, Climbing shoes, climbing gear

If you've got ~$800 to spend on an 8wt rod, which rod would you get?

What are you fishing for? You looking to hike? From a boat?

Redfish, from kayak or boat

Just took delivery of a Clutch Archipelago. I won't have a chance to fish it until next week but its one of the best rods I've ever lawn cast.
I still think the Orvis H2 is the best in the world right now.
If I casually fly fished and had to use a rod for both boat and sitting down in a kayak, I would opt for a more moderate action rod. I'd get a Mangrove or BVK and pair it with a nice Galven, Tibor, or nautilus reel.

I only throw standing up in the kayak so it's not much different than throwing from a boat and I already have an Axiom so if I got another I'd be looking for something a step up.
I've heard great things about Clutch rods.
