Texas Rod Company and other Texas/LA rod makers

Anyone know much about Texas Rod Company? I have a Laguna Liquid series casting rod but I'm in the market for an inshore spinning rod and would like something made in Texas or Louisiana. Budget is 200 tops but would prefer something in the 150 range. For some reason Im not crazy about Waterloo. Targeting specks, reds, and flounder.

Why just Texas and Louisiana? Hard enough to find USA made rods these days.

Im a Waterloo guy through and through. I do have a Laguna Liquid spinner that I really like as well. If Texas Rod Company is the actual company/Rod brand, I’ve never heard of them. Sarge, H&H, FTU’s in house rods, are all very good as well.

The Waterloo Salinity Series is in that range and is a good rod at that price.
Just saw yours not crazy about Waterloo. Not Texas or Louisiana but Cajun Rods are American made and have a 25% off sale right now.

In your price range it isn’t happening, you are asking for a custom. I fish salinity’s since it’s a good light rod that’s plenty tough and I’m not paying $600 for a sarge, $400 for a laguna or $400-$500 for a custom Waterloo.
I have two Cajun rods for wading and they are fine but don’t ask for the owner or you’ll be on the phone for an hour.
Cajun is one of the few who make their own blanks. Any rod under $200 you’re getting premade chineese blanks.

I like the Cajun Custom Rods
Check out Peska Rods. I follow him on Instagram. Not sure what blanks he is using but I like the look of his rods. He has some options less than $200
I have an FTU green rod that I like. Not sure if they are less than $200 but you could probably find a lightly used one for less than that on FB or 2coolfishing.com

FTU rods are pricey but good quality, kid stepped on mine and broke it. Nope, his dad didn’t offer to pay for it either.
Ti recoil guides are the most expensive part of the FTU greenies, cost on them is under $75 per a buddy who fishes the rod and owner of FTU.
Markup is unbelievable on rods.

Dang that sucks. Yeah I have the recoil guides on mine and they are durable as hell.
I agree on markup. I’ve looked into getting a starter rod building kit because I have trouble finding a rod with a handle and seat I like. Just don’t have the room in my house or shed to store all the items and a good workspace.

I've purchased 7' Carbon Fiber custom inshore rods from Connley Fishing in South Florida. Bryan builds some beautiful rods. www.connleyfishing.com
My next rods will be from Bo's Custom Rods in Denham. I'd prefer to purchase local. www.boscustomrods.com

Kistler makes several rods in that price range. All except their bottom teir rods are assembled in Texas.
I'd be very leary of any custom builders offering rods in your budget. I build rods. A decent blank and components is going to run ~$125 at a minimum. Most charge $125-150 for a build fee so you're looking at $250 minimum for a decent rod.
If they're charging $150-200 for a finished rod then they're either using really low grade components or not charging much for their time which often indicates poor craftsmanship.
Someone like Swampland might be an exception as they're building at a higher volume (usually means lower labor fees) and getting wholesale discounts on components.

Do they have a showroom where you can handle the goods?

The Kistler KLX series is $150 and I think they're great in that price range. Insanely lightweight and most of the KLX models are mod-fast which works well inshore.

If you're asking about Kistler, yes. You can visit their facility in Magnolia, TX.

They have a tackle shop in Lafayette that i think has some finished rods. Admittedly, I've never been before though.

I have been doing it wrong apparently. I choose my inshore tackle from my bass arsenal and take the stuff I don't mind tearing up
