I'm looking for any info on Texas exotic hunts for my sons graduation gift.

Anyone had any experience on any ranches in central/west Texas?

My sister is a member at horn/fin/feather in southeast Texas. They've got Nilgai, Oryx, and Waterbucks. She loves it

My Nephews are more interested in shooting ducks when they go down there, but they've killed some big Nilgai

very nice place but...yeeeah...not what I would call "hunting". More like driving around and shooting at animals from a SxS

Welcome to hunting exotics in Texas. If you want to make it somewhat real. Get out of SXS and walk a few yards.

Have you considered a helicopter hog hunt as well. Those are a blast, especially with a shogun and buckshot

Yea and they call that “Safari style”. If it’s drive spot and stalk that is different and more ok. I’m ok with whatever people want to do and would do it myself for the experience and the meat but not gonna listen to some jack wagon with a fluorescent light tan and an expensive gun and decked out in brand new Sitka camo brag about being a “hunter” when he rode around in a buggy in blue skies and 39 degrees to shoot an animal shot while more curious about whether that vehicle has corn or not in it than knowing it’s a threat. Just admit you shot a very nice eating animal that is closer to the real thing at least than the beef you ate that is pre killed and processed by others. Just keep it real not some fist pump for winning a video war game.

I take it you don't sit on a feeder at 100 yards and shoot deer and then claim that is hunting either. I agree with you though. I am miles past sitting over a feeder unless it is a straight meat hunt for either WT or an exotic though.

The last time I did an exotic hunt we did a spot and stalk on an Axis. They weren't coming to feeders at all and if you do shoot out of a SXS at animals and make it a habit, they wise up to that tactic pretty damn quick and correlate SXS's as dangerous and are moving when they see it. We were on a SXS and of course saw a group and they broke into a dead run when they saw us. After they stopped, I did about a 200 yard walk and then almost a crawl and then I had about a 200 yard shot on an Axis buck that was already pretty damn spooky. Shite I am in pretty decent shape and still had an adrenaline surge from the walk and then trying to dial in my breathing to make a kill shot. It wasn't a walk in the park at all. It was by far the outlier of an exotic kill in Texas.
