Mind giving a specified list of your gear? Done a lot of scubaing and decided to finally get certified but don't know much about which specific gear companies are better than others, etc.

Aqualung teknika mask
And Slingshot fins I'm pretty sure.
Cheap snorkel since I will rarely use it.

Dude, slow down (IMO). Walk before you run. Get a lot of recreational dives under your belt before you spear. Spearing throws a lot of additional factors into the mix. FWIW, I'm Rescue Diver certified.

Same here.

Hold off on buying BC, reg, etc. until you know you're going to be into it. A lot of cost there if you're only going to do it occasionally. Just my 2 cents.

This is just something that I know I'll never get in to. Deep water scares the ever living snot out of me. Props to you guys that can do it though. I enjoy seeing your pics and videos, even though sometimes the videos are almost like horror movies to me.

If you can find a Cressi Sub Big Eyes mask, check it out. I love mine. The range of vision is amazing and it stays very dry.

100% agree with this. I'm also S&R certified, but spearfishing is an entirely different level of danger.

If you do get into spearing, always remember, you can buy a new gun. Don't die for the sake of being a cheap bastard.

Are you referring to malfunctions from a cheaper or older gun?

Exactly. Spearfishermen have a tendency to push the limits of what is safe. Hell Diver's Rodeo is like "How to Die Underwater for Dummies."

That's your opinion

ETA: though it can be very dangerous if you cannot keep a level head. People that are inexperienced and try to keep up with the pro's will kill or injure themselves severely
