Awesome. The one I like has a saltwater pool with liner and diving board. I guess replacing the liner is expensive? I can always remove the diving board.
Liner will probably need to be replaced every 5 years or so. Couple thousand. Not too bad.
Safeco will insure it with a diving board, and a couple other companies will too.

I replaced my liner for 2K... They get water under them and get wrinkles though which can be a pita... i installed the salt system myself for 600. It was pretty simple and much much much easier than keeping up with a shite ton of chemicals. My pool pump runs me around 40 bucks a month in electric bill. Salt maybe 20 a month in hot summer when I am adding alot of water...occasionally I throw in some algae stuff and shock the pool for another 15 or so a month.
I bought a automatic vacuum crawler thing for 400. It keeps the manual labor down.
All that being said... the pool is worth it when my niece and nephews come over to swim (they are 3-6) and love the pool. It is also great for jumping in after weedeating the yard.
Worst part is my damn labs think it is their personal training pond for duck season....

1) not sure, never heard my parents complain after they put it in
2) see #1
3) see #1
4) saltwater is SO MUCH BETTER than chlorine. I love my parents' saltwater pool. but don't pick the house over the pool.
but saltwater is nice.

Parents put in a fiberglass pool, it was significantly cheaper than a lot of the other options. I know the insurance went up, not sure how much, but I also know putting up the fence helped with that. If there are a lot of oaks around your yard you're gonna end up cutting some down. The leaves get ridiculous.
And it won't be fairly simple once you get it going. Something will always need attention. Something breaking or going out, needs more salt, pool staining, algae, etc etc etc.
We had saltwater, and after electrode deal went out my dad just started using chlorine tablets. It ended up being a lot less of a headache than we were having with the saltwater pool. Plus the electrodes aren't cheap.
And you'll end up paying more than you expect when it comes to chemicals and stuff for it.
Not talking you out of it, just realize what you'll be getting yourself into.

My neighbors have pools. I have a ladder. Win-win.

Another thing, make sure whoever puts it in puts more jets along it than you think it'll need. They skimped on ours and poor circulation causes a lot of the algae problems we've had.
Also, if you know a little chemistry, you can save money on chemicals. The pool supply places will sell you stuff that is effectively the same as much cheaper things (for example, calcium hypochlorite vs sodium hypochlorite - bleach)

One thing about insurance that helped my cost was that if there was a fire, they were able to use the pool water. That off set my cost per insurance company.
Saltwater is the way to go. NO LINER for sure! Pools do need up keep. Thank God my wife loved to do it.
We sold that house and was going to have a pool put in now, but stoped due to my health.

No fire plugs = higher fire insurance rates in my area at the time.

Had a 22' x 44' gunnite pool for about 20 years. Filled it in 2 years ago. Happiest day of my life. Better to have friends with pool benefits.

Fun the first month you get it, then only fun the first week of each summer.

My Grandpaw built a pool house about 25 years ago with a pool. My parents live on one side of him, Aunt on the other side, and me and a few cousins live on the same property. It is one of the greatest things for us. Really helps keep our family close because we get together at least once a week in the summer.

Pretty awesome setup
Yep, got a volleyball court behind the pool, a baseball field (improvised) on one side, a barn in the back and a bunch of land (which is going into my name tomorrow
I had a badass upbringing. All my friends spent all their time at my house. Not to mention my Grandmaw cooked twice a week, my aunt twice, and my Mom the other days.
