Can you have a trust that includes a SBR and a suppressor, or are those 2 different trusts? I know it takes 2 tax stamps

Can you explain what a SBR is?

I figure it takes about 1.5-2 hours total, including the time to get all the information from the client, answer all their questions, draft it, have them add a trustee, remove a trustee, meet with them in your office to notarize it, etc.

Thats still at least $250/hr, pretty steep for "getting information from the client", and notarizing.

Why do the prices of NFA trust vary so much? I am assuming that most of them are basically the same and take the same amount of time to prepare. I understand that some attorneys are better than others but this seems to be a very simple process.

I know of some attorneys charging over $600 in Laffy, you are at $500, and NOLA charges $325.

I can't speak for other lawyers, but I have an office on the second to top floor of a class A office building with a legal staff and other lawyers and lots of overhead and other big bills to pay.

A lawyer working out of his house can do work for 100 bucks and hour and make money. If I billed 100 bucks an hour I would literally lose money.

Fair enough. I honestly assumed that with a firm or office that large, a paralegal or similar would be doing the grunt work. Could make a lot more money it seems. I am far from an attorney though.

Ill bow out of this thread but for the OP, lots of class 3 information on BayouShooter with lots of recommendations and cautions.

I called him just a few minutes ago. He is working on finding a can for me. Nobody has the one I want in stock and I have my heart set on it.

Doesn't really matter if they are in stock, turnaround from the ATF is at about 10 months. See if you can find it on GB and have it transferred in to Derek, then the wait begins.

He is still waiting on some cans that he ordered last year at the SHOT show. I figured that they would be in soon or he could at least get the SN off one of the cans and start the state paperwork.

I didnt think about the GB idea. How much does one typically charge to do all of that transfer work? From one dealer to another, and then to me?

i've seen yall on here talking about "trusts" in relation to supressors. what is the need for setting up a trust in order to have/use a supressor?

You contact an attoryney, he sets up a trust for you, the trust purchases all of the items and owns them. It allows for multiple people to be in possession of the item(s) and protects the owners of the trust.

Go to BayouShooter and begin reading there. There is a guy that has done dozens of trust for guys all over the state. He is located in NOLA and both Landry from Landrys Guns and Derek from Big Boy Armament recommends him.

I believe that to be the case. Although, I am not sure if the background check is ran on just the applicant or all of the trustees.

I know the basics about it but am just starting to learn all the fine details.

The going rate is about $100, I have a dentist in NOLA that does them too. Best dentist ever!

I was looking on their website and saw they have supressed barrels. Do you still need a trust and apply to ATF to buy a barrel.

You don't "need" a trust for any class III firearm, including the integrally suppressed barrel you are talking about.

What is the purpose of doing one if you don't need one? Can anyone just buy a suppressor?
