Study shows dispersents used during BP oil spill still present in soil

This could be another factor in the disappearing baitfish number this year. Hearing the kilifish (cocahoes) and rain minnow populations aren't showing up in the numbers that we have seen in the past.

What's the science behind your theory? Wouldn't the chemicals be breaking down over time and making them less harmful? If the bait has been plentiful in past years when the dispersants had greater efficacy, why would they be impacting fish now? Or is it believed to be the results of a long term effect?

Believed to be a long term effect from the residuals still in the environment. I'm no scientist just repeating what a university scientist working for the state have conveyed to me.

Would you expect a scientist working for BP would agree?

I'm not finding fault with you FWIW. Just trying to understand the perspective. I suppose it's very possible the long term effects are starting to show. Hard to prove tho.

My guide buddy was called as a survey to the declining trout catch in BL the last 2 years.
The guy hinted about the BP oil spill maybe having some sort of effect(sp) on the trout or their food....

I thought everyone was hammering the trout the last few years?
