quote:

I hunt west of norwood in W. Fel and I don't think these deer rut hard for a defined couple of weeks like everywhere else

It seems like we see scrapes and all from now till the season closes, but no chaising, grunting etc. Its like is is drawn out so they aren't too worried about it, it is damn aggrevating.

You couldnt have described this area more perfectly.

Every year I think I can pin it down to a week that it actually happens. And every year isn't the exact same as the one before.

I shot a buck one year that was part of a pack of 5 chasing one doe. That's was the week before Christmas.

I've killed 2 bucks that were actually bedded with does. One on Jan 3rd and the other on Jan 4th.

Saw a wall hanger trailing a doe across a huge CRP field last weekend of January on year

Saw another 8 trailing a doe 2nd week of Feb during the middle of the day

This was all in West Fel parish. So basically, everybody is in agreement the rut starts somewhere right before Christmas but I don't think anyone has an idea when it ends. For good reason too. If a doe isn't bred the first time she comes into heat she will do it again in a month.

All I know is I'm excited as hell and anxious to get out there and put some arse time in a stand

i have hunted all over the damn parish and you are correct, it seems to vary. I have never hunted a place like I'm at now though, no chaising, no grunting no nothing. We seem to kill our biggest and oldest deer the first wknd of muzzloader to Thanksgiving. Guess they still dumb since we don't bow hunt it at all

Sounds like they don't have to get too aggressive in their pursuit of pussy. Enough does for everybody

On our place by the state line a doe will have 4-5 bucks chasing her

In cat island it was always one buck chasing 4-5 does

Made a good round on our lease Friday. Not much movement on cameras, not many hookings or scrapes in the hardwoods. Not many tracks in the food plots and the grass is tall. We're in the "lull" we always have between thanksgiving and Christmas. Movement should pick up in next week.

I hunt around Woodville/Centreville. Started seeing a few bucks chasing this week. Rut will be full blast next two weeks.

Checked cams today. Had 4 shooters on cam in daylight Sunday morning-Monday evening. Hard to believe they moved in all that wind Sunday but they did. All feeding, no chasing. Some heavy sparring on cam at night. Saw decent almost shooter 8 pt cruising this evening.

I'm going to start hitting it hard on Friday. Hopefully I haven't missed the main part of the rut.

We never see bucks really chasing does off hwy 967 North of Spillman rd until the last few weeks of the season. I know others around ST. Francisville see this earlier we just do not.

December 27-28 was always the days my dad and I made sure to be in the woods when I was growing up. We usually saw activity or killed some good deer on those days.

Aside from those dates, Christmas Eve, January 2nd, and the last weekend of the season have been some of my most memorable hunts.

We still have seen no chasing or real signs of rut in the spillman area. Anyone in that area have any updates?

Our lease is in W. Feliciana just west of Thompson Creek and no. of Hwy 10. We had big buck (215lb. 4pt.) killed late X-mas morning....80+ degrees and chasing a doe....go figure.

No sign for us in Spillman yet either. We are here through Sunday except for Thursday to give them hell though.

Still a hunting club for riverbend. You have to work for entergy not necessarily the plant. It's bow only and the hogs are taking over. Where is your land? I'm around there daily. I'll come bs if your around during working hours.

A few minor chases in Greenwood Plantation area, uncharacteristic for this time of year
