Fired things up and one head isn't turning (can turn manually). Any ideas what could be happening? Rainbird

Dirt or something in there? I always just replaced them when they stopped.

Gear is probably gone.

You should be able to just grab the head and unscrew. Be careful and dont yank it out, just slide it out so you dont get dirt in the elbow connection.

Plastic gears.....I replace several a week on the ball fields. They're about $7 a piece, so don't sweat it. Just read on the little blue jet on the spout to make sure you replace with the same gallons-per-minute jet. I'll post a pic in a second how I do it with minimal damage to yard. Something told me to take a picture yesterday when I did this....must've been you!

Use post hole diggers to make an isolated hole around the damaged head. Use small trowel to pick all the dirt out (tedious, but worth not digging a crater w shovel), and the damaged head simply threads off. Will be hand-tight, so no tools necessary. Make sure no dirt falls into underground pipe, and thread new head on. I recommend Rainbird 5000 Plus heads. Use NO pipe dope, it can clog head. Notice how I keep the top several inches of grass/roots intact to put back on after dirt is replaced. Ya can't even tell when I'm done.

Email me at w0220501@selu.edu and I'll give you my number. You may need help setting the rotation, or I'll come do it for you for a beer or two

No, unscrew and screw no one on. Really easy especially if you get the same make and model that you are replacing.
