No photos. Did see two times last week very briefly in an area of bamboo. It has a yellow wash for its underparts, dark bib, and pinkish legs. Unable to determine color of upperparts, bill shape, or presence of wing bars. It was about the size of a Brown Thrasher.

Ruled out Meadowlark due to it's bright yellow color and the unlikelihood of the juvenile Orchard Oriole's presence in January. Thank you.

This isn't enough.

Don’t rule out orioles in winter Some Baltimore and orchards are still around

Northern flicker fits some of your characteristics as well. They have yellow shafts on their primaries

That makes for a fairly big bird.

Any behavioral notes?

Evening Grosbeak?

Looked directly at it while perched on top of a bamboo cluster. Did not see the large bill but the legs looked about the right color. Evening Grosbeak could be the one. Thank you.

I guess a location (state) could have been helpful too.

I assumed Louisiana when searching my iBird app.

Yes, Lake Charles. It had a dark bib so I think that the Evening Grosbeak is not likely. I did not locate the Evening Grosbeak in the lists for the ebird in Calcasieu or Cameron Parishes.

This would be big find. You need a pic if so. They have irruptive years and none have shown up for some time in Louisiana.

Appreciate your consideration. I will be looking to another sighting as I am also seeking a better look at a winter hummingbird.

Waterthrush would be a pretty significant sighting also. They are neotropics migrants.

I believe the Waterthrush has too much streaking, is without a bib and is too small.
