Squab eats good, supposedly...

Many times the bands are from homing pigeons used for racing. They can be very valuable...

Pigeons are technically doves. Has anyone here eaten one? Do they taste similar?

There are different types of pigeons some more eatable than others. We used to hunt them in S. California when I was a kid. Not nearly as good as doves.

have always been curious, but a pellet gun is apparently no match for these hearty fricker

The crazy old lady that lived behind us when I was a kid used to feed these damned things every day. Since my pops apparently didn't trust me with a pellet gun in a residential area, I had a secretly-smuggled slingshot that I used to fire off pebbles from our flat roofed section of our house at the flying rats that would perch on the edge of old lady's roof. I connected on quite a few and they made some solid, audible thumps, but never did succeed in dispatching one. Tough as nails.
