Should I change out my rotors?

I have zero experience with judging rotors so thought I would ask someone here. I know scoring is an indicator but looks like I have some pitting going on to?

I was going to change out brake pads myself then looked at the rotors and thinking I should swap them out as well. The car just hit 100,000 miles.

TIA

As long as there is not deep grooves its probably fine. However, they really aren't that expensive if you are doing it yourself and after 100,000 its probably not a bad idea. Its really easy to do as well.

Probably if they are the originals. you might be able to have them turned. just depends on the tolerances for your particular rotors

only time i change out rotors is if i feel vibration in the brake pedal while braking indicating warped rotors. That's it. Used to turn them on our lathe but they're so cheap now that I just replace them.

bring them to autozone/oreillys and see if they can turn them for you. it's about 10 bucks per

I just order the rotors and pads kits off of 1A Auto and do it all. Its simple and not very costly.

Change them. If you don't then you'll need to before the next time your pads wear.

That is what I'm leaning towards.

What would cause the pitting? Debris? I lived in Florida for a while and sand would get everywhere.

Not sure what you're driving but on my toyota sequoia changing the rotors out with the brakes added about 5-10 min per rotor to the job.
Maybe 15 on the 1st but once I figured it out the second was easy.

You guys are lucky. I just did a complete brake job on my late 90's yota and I have to take the hub off to get the rotor off. It's not hard by any means but it's a pain in the arse to have to pack grease and deal with that headache. You can find deals on the internet for brake packages to save a few but I'd check the thickness of your rotor and the tolerances to get them turned before I bought new.

If you're doing pads anyway, just buy a kit from rockauto.com. Pads and rotors together.

nothing wrong with those rotors, you only "need" to change them if they have grooves in them or an uneven surface wear.

that said, in most cases rotors are average $30 each so its a minor cost and new rotors will have a rough surface to break in better with new pads and not have any squeaking

Just changed the ones on my wife's 2014 Pathfinder Platinum which has about 92K miles. They were shaking a lot on high speed braking. It was real easy and ordered the replacements through Amazon for right at $100. Included new pads, brake fluid and brake cleaner. I think new pads at Auto Zone will run you $35-70 depending on what you get, so I thought it was a great deal. Not sure what vehicle you have, but here's the link for reference.

Just to let you know, anytime putting new rotors on, clean them very well with either soapy water or brake cleaner. They come with industrial packing grease all over them for rust prohibiter. That stuff will ruin your new pads in short order if you don't clean it off.May even get hot enough to cause a fire under the vehicle.

As others have said, unless your rotors are warped and causing your brake pedal to vibrate, you probably don’t need to change them. All rotors will have some amount of scratches and scoring on them and they will rust when they get wet anyway. It’s impossible to tell if a rotor needs to be replaced just by looking at it - well unless it’s broken in half or something .
