Made what I always hope is an annual hunt on the big river this week. Rutting activity always seems early for that part of the world.
In this one, four bucks total were running around crazy some with tongues hanging out. The only thing that makes any sense is that a hot doe passed there before I climbed. I stopped the vid due to me realizing the rear buck might have been a shooter.

This little guy walked up on my left at about 5 yard with the sun on him. Just a beautiful animal. Could not get the phone out until he made it to the road you see.

Oh, and I got to eat a couple suppers with Greg Hackney which was pretty interesting. Dude loves to hunt.

2nd buck definitely a shooter in my book! I was waiting for him to clear your tree.

Edit: 2nd buck in that first video.

Got my heart beat up watching that. What does a buck that you’d shoot weigh there. Those all looked damn healthy.

Both bucks in first video are Winn Parish shooters.

"Little guy" in second video would be a shooter if I just wanted to be done for the day.

All depends on timing. Those dudes are losing weight daily. My 8year old from 2023 was 240 I think. Heard of a 280 recently and that's rare apparently.

Oh, and both the acorn crop and food plots there are best I have ever seen. No shortage of food this Fall.

Met GH several years ago when I still lived in AP and yes, very interesting dude. I think he could talk fishing and hunting for hours. Good luck on the hunt.

“Little guy” in second video looks like the one I shot Thanksgiving day.
Weighed 152 lbs,8 points but only had a 11 1/2 inch spread.
Having a terrible season, rut here is usually between Nov 15th and Thansgiving.I’ve seen no signs of a rut, does are still in groups.Only saw 1 chase,a 4pt after a doe.
Have pictures of a couple of good 8,points but only at night.Only bucks I’ve seen are spikes,3 pts,4 pts.

The one I killed wasn’t chasing,just crossing a highline about 7:30.
