Planning on heading out to shell beach or hopedale this saturday and wondering if anyone has any good advice. My only stipulation is I don't have much range so if I go out into eloi I have to be efficient on picking my spots.

Fished Treasure Bay las Friday.

Followed the birds and threw vudu shrimp plastics.

Caught a shite ton of specks. Unfortunately, most were under.

That in itself might be too far of a run for my boat. I'm in a 17.5' flatboat.

Are you looking to fish specks or reds? If you are content to fish reds go into the Biloxi Marsh(Muscle, Pete's Lagoon, Cutoff Lagoon, Brick Lagoon, etc. If you are looking for specks, your boat is better for the fall, but you can run fairly protected waters out to Lake Eloi and fish over the oyster reefs. Halfmoon Bay is another option. You could also try fishing the "four way" where La Loute meets St. Malo. Good luck.

Thanks Bear ... yea I am targeting specks. What I might do is try for some specks early in the morning and then shift into BM to box a couple reds.

Your help is very much appreciated!

If you want specks, launch out of campos, either get live shrimp or artificial under a cork and head out across mrgo to lake borgne. Work the shoreline on the east side all the way up towards the la marsh. Should be protected from the winds. Hit cuts and bayous leading into the lake. Should get enough fish to stink up the grease. Buddy hit proctors point last week. Caught zero trout, but did catch a few nice reds. Tight lines

I think I'd rather launch at Campo's over BSM for crowd control lol

We went this morning in two boats and caught 50+ keeper specks total plus another 100 throw backs in Bay Eloi. The bite was pretty much over at 8:30.

curious as to what kinda boat you have? i was considering a skiff for sight fishing reds but i'm getting intimidated by all of that water and wind with a smaller boat.

also, thanks to all for the replies and tips. newbie here to the fishing world.

spend my time in the woods.

What is the best wind for a boat like the OP's in the Biloxi Marsh? I have a similar boat and would like to learn that area. TIA

I always avoid west wind unless I go out by Christmas Camp. You are pretty much protected in the Biloxi Marsh, but it can kick up. If you are fishing reds right now you just need to work Muscle, Pete's, Cutoff, and Brick. Brick Lagoon is very well protected; it is a small body of water and is deep in the marsh. In the fall, these same bodies of water will hold specks.
