I'm fresh to duck hunting, borrowed some gear last season. Looking to get kitted up this season with basics without breaking the bank. I found Drake has a sale on gear from last season and picked up a jacket. I'm also looking for a pair of waders.

Any other pre-season sales yall could learn me of?

You just missed out on Sitka’s friends and family discounts

Simmons Sporting Goods in Bastrop always has a sale around first of August. I think you can order online

My son bought some Rogers sporting good breathable waders on sale a couple of weeks ago.
They had a good sale going on. Not sure if it’s still going on or not.

How are you hunting? Out of a boat or blind? I rarely hunt out of a ground/water blind, so I have a good pair of lacrosse boots. I primarily hunt early season teal, so I have a good lightweight Sitka early season kit in gore Marsh. I have an under Armour barren set that works really well. My wife bought me a northern flight combo Goretex jacket for Christmas last year for a goose hunt and it’s fantastic. Make sure you’re comfortable , dry, and your face is covered.

If I hunted a lot in cold wet conditions I’d absolutely without hesitation spend the money on a set of Sitka waders. Their stuff is incredible.

Do your self a favor and buy a pricey Goretex jacket. Then you can buy less expensive things to layer with under that shell. Dont trust anything Drake sells as waterproof. Get goretex, Ive tried several nothing is waterproof but gore tex is close as it gets.

Also Rogers sporting good wader are a good start for lower half water protection

Something with a warranty they will all rip but if you clean them through the season and hang them during the split and then repeat and hang them in the offseason they should last. I had a pair of frogtoggs lasted prolly 10ish or more years I had been bragging about before last season and tripped on some cypress hunting cypress sloughs and sprung a leak (everyone gotta make an arse out of themselves every now and then, but they easily were fixed) They are way too thick for La hunting though.

Grabbed another pair of Frog Toggs for maybe $150 and some drake kind that you can take the neoprene lining out that were like $300 from academy. Really all depends on where you hunt and how. But spraying them and hanging them inside after they dry (preferably upside down) in the off season has worked well for me.

Safety note if you hunt wading in water, especially with a buddy, be careful walking with the gun,(esp water that is year round water and gumbo muddy) accidents can happen if you trip. Maybe even the larger thing is when you lean forward to get in your shooting stance and hit the safety to shoot make sure you havent sunk down far enough to pull your foot up easily to not tryo up losing your balance and falling forward.
Know of a guy that almost accidentally shot his hunting buddy going to put his left left leg forward to stance up to shoot and tripped forward. Buddy was about ten yards to his left and a even with him. Best duck hunting advice is be safe and you'll be fine, not a better hunting experience than when the birds are flying.
