I figured you guys would know this. Tearing down a house. What is the best mask to use. The cheap one just got soaked with sweat, hard to breath, hot as hell and I don’t think blocked anything.

Any recommendations? Looking for quality over price but not looking to break the bank.

Just a regular old 3M 6000 series mask with P95 filters would be fine for that. You can get them at Home Depot or Lowe's. They're usually in the paint department

If you know anybody that works in a hospital, ask them to get you a handful of N95 masks.

Those are the ones they use when working around patients with Tuberculosis. That filter out all the nasty $hit you need.

Lowes or HD and get whatever reusable respirator they have, I have a 3M and another brand that accepts 3M filters, cheaper ones work just as well. Keep spare filters available, you'd be surprised how quickly they can load up, especially if you are tearing up sheetrock.

The N95 masks are not typically used in work environments, because petroleum-based particles can eat through them IIRC. That's why P95 and P100 are used in construction. Hardware stores will typically only carry the P variants

Do not buy a cheap pack of hospital masks from Lowes. It's a mistake. Your concern is not the larger dust particles that you can see, it is the micro particles that cannot be seen, usually 15 micron and lower. I have a two-stage dust collection system in my shop, but when I am doing demo I wear an RZ Mask for most work. They are a quality product for less than $30 and comfortable to wear ( https://rzmask.com/). The only time up upgrade to a full HEPA Respirator Mask is when I am messing with drywall or spraying indoors. Otherwise RZ Mask is just fine.

The expert on dust particles is a guy named Bill Pentz. He publishes a comprehensive dust guide on his website, billpentz.com.

This. To the OP, this guy knows what he's talking about.

It'll be used for ripping out walls and floors etc from old old house. Do you recommend the RZ or full HEPA?

I can vouch for this. That is why I came here.

Honestly both; it will run you about $30 for each. I also hate wearing masks because I have a hard time breathing without the damn mask so with it I pretty much suffocate with it. That's why I recommend the RZ; it's the most comfortable one I've found.

If you are cutting and demoing products known to contain asbestos, then wear the HEPA respirator. For ripping up wood and just general work around the dusty house, I wear the RZ because it is just more functional.

If you need to just go with one, get the 3M respirator or HEPA respirator equivalent off amazon like the second poster said. It keeps you covered in every scenario, just a pain in the arse.
