Ive heard two things. One that after the last time the Morganza spillway was opened they now feel confident about everything involved and will be more likely to do it in the future.

Ive also heard that people in the Morganza Spillway have been told to be prepared for this possibly happening this year.

Not sure how that translated to the BC but just what ive heard

FYI they get that letter every year since they are in a spillway.

Now that they repaired all the areas around the gates that nearly scoured under the pilings and wrecked the whole structure, I hope they feel a little better.

This year is a totally different year than 2011. That year we were in a historic drought, and all of the models they had predicting the coverage of the water within the spillway ended up being wrong. With this year being as wet as it has been, it would be a totally different dispersion of water with the gates open.

As of now it is not expected to be opened. We expect the river to rise another 4 feet and crest sometime at the end of the month. However if the mid west get significant rainfall over the next couple weeks this could change.

The snow in the north east has little affect on the Mississippi.

This.

Need a bunch of snow in the midwest to affect the river with snow melt. Don't think the midwest got much snow this year.
