I think if you shoot them you have to bury them or something like that. I thought about doing the same thing. Check the laws. I saw ldwf out there last time I went.

Seems like it would be better left for the rest of the animals of the marsh to catch a free meal.

LINK

I would think maybe these above listed would apply. Something about certain birds eating them.

And just checked the hunting regs. September thru April is the season and you have to gut them if you want to leave the carcass

I wonder why they wouldn't want those birds to eat them? Do they carry some sort of disease not good for the birds? I would tend to think those birds eat them naturally when they die. When ever I have gone pop some we removed the carcus but I always felt why not leave easy food for the marsh. Might be missing something.

Lead poisoning. That's why they specify steel shot if taken with a shotgun.

Hmm ok I'll give you that. Didn't think about the led from a 22 round.

I've been using 22LR for years but this year I bought an A17.
it's all scoped in and set up pretty...cannot wait to get at them rats after duck season

and the picking the carcasses up rule is idiotic
I've complained about this here before. You either want them dead or not

CZ 455 Varmint or American? Like the bull barrel but it may be heavy for those rabbit and squire chases.

IMO, I would be reluctant to shoot a rifle over marsh/open water.
Those bullets can carrry, even skip across the water.
Depending on where you are, there may be people fishing beyond your target that you can't see. Keep in mind, kayaker sits pretty low in the water.
You may be in an area where you know no one is at, that's fine. But if folks are around, fishing, traveling in boats, that might not be an ideal area to use a rifle.
I think a .22 or .17 is an excellent round to kill an animal this size of a nutria, I would just be cautious about where I'm shooting those rounds and what is behind my target.

ETA: sorry, just reread your post that you were in the Biloxi marsh. I wouldn't use a rifle there. Just too much potential for someone getting hit. I would use a shotgun.

I ordered it with the bushnell A17 scope pre mounted
I did have to level and adjust it but the mounts are solid and the scope does the job out to 100 yds. I was worried it would be cheap garbage but it's actually pretty nice and it has a BDC reticle if you want to zero at 50 instead which is what I did

I swapped the stock with a boyds laminated and it's a little heavier but much better to shoulder and fire

I got mine with the Boyd's stock. I had read the plastic was a little flimsy and the mag had a hard time locking in.

the 10 round rotary mag is still a little squirrelly...I have to load mine with the bolt locked back. Strangely enough the aftermarket extended mag jumps right in no problem
