Looking at Meopta is the right direction. I tried for over a year to stay off the 6.5CM bandwagon but then I shot a buddies and now I own 5. It's a sickness! I have Meopta's on all but one, the 5th has a thermal on it. The Optika6 is the way to go for a great FFP scope with excellent glass. From the 3-18x50 to the big daddy 5-30x56 with a 34mm tube, you can't go wrong. The only trouble will be finding one! The next problem will be ammo while you're having so much fun shooting! Don't waste your time looking at other options or buying something else and then being disappointed like I did. Have fun!

What reticles do you have?

I ended up getting the Vortex Viper PST Gen II 1-6x24 SFP Riflescope because the price was very good ($569 before tax; $699 regular) for a non-high end AR-15 rifle. Scope is mounted on a one piece Vortex 30mm extended scope mount. I saw some scope mounts that cost $200+. Can anyone explain what's the difference in the quality between a $200+ scope mount and one that costs <$75 besides the price?
There's excellent info on various rifle scopes in this thread and I might have to make a spreadsheet for reference when buying future rifle scopes for my bolt action rifles. Present and future.
The Vortex Viper scope glass is made in the Philippines and it was more than adequate for my S&W M&P AR-15 when hunting hogs, 3 gun shooting and basic shooting outdoors. I had a chance to shoot with Leupold, Night Force and Trijicon scopes belonging to friends and you guys weren't kidding when you said the quality of the glass makes a big difference! Eye relief is also a big deal since some scopes have a puny arse eye relief even when it states that it's about 3.5 inches. I shot with some lower end scopes (i.e. Primary Arms Slx 1x6-24 SFP) with glass made in China and I could see a difference in quality, but it wasn't terrible by any means. It wasn't a bad scope for what he paid for ($270). I think I'll stick with glass made elsewhere in the meantime.

With that budget and that rifle, I would consider only three choices...well actually four but I know you’ll disregard the last one.
On the high end at $699.00 is the Swaro Z3 3-9x36. Very trim and very light with very good glass. In the middle is the is the Leupold VX3i 2-8x36. Pretty much everything I said about the Swaro applies to the Leupold but for half the cost. On the low end is the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40. Everything I said about the other two applies to it AND unlike the other two you can get it with a ballistic reticle AND it can be had for as low as $150.00.
I have all three of those scopes and if I’m being honest, I can’t really tell much difference between any of them. It basically boils down to snobbery that I have anything but the Burris as that it does everything I want in a deer rifle scope for a rock bottom cost.
I’d get the Burris and see how you like it. It’s cheap and if you don’t like it, it’s given you some experience in that weight and magnification range for minimal cost. You can sell it for a $100 or more easily.
Now my final choice is my personal preference for lever action rifles. If I’m scoping any lever, it is with a straight tubed scope and it needs to be trim and light. I really like the Leupold Freedom 1-4x20 with the Pig Plex reticle.

Since this thread was bumped I bought a couple of scopes the last few months. I have a Tract 3-15x42 on order for my Browning A-Bolt. I also purchased a Blackhound 6-24x50 for my 6.5 Creedmoor. It's the best $400 scope you'll ever buy. Comes with Rings, Flip-Up Caps, levels and a few other things.

Finally broke down and spent the money for a nice scope on my everyday .270. Holy cow is it a nice piece of glass. And all my hunting buddies that looked through it this season commented on the clarity. Very nice scope. I sometimes hunt with my youngest son’s 7MM-08 with a Nikon Prostaff the guys at Bowie’s recommended years ago, and it’s been an excellent purchase. I need to repower a .300 WinMag, so this discussion has been helpful. Sort of. More money to shell out.

What magnification range did you get?

Meopta has their Optika5 line of riflescopes out now. They have the same glass as the Optika6 but with 1-inch tubes. I have the 6 on my 6.5cm, 5.4-27x50 FFP. Awesome for reaching out using the BDC or dialing in my drops. I couldn't be happier with the features that this scope has.
